TOKYO -- Japanese YouTuber "GaaSyy," who was elected to Japan's House of Councillors on the ticket of the NHK Party, remains overseas and has not attended Diet sessions, with reports earlier this year that he was residing in Dubai. The head of the chamber's Committee on Rules and Administration has requested that he quickly return to Japan and appear in the Diet.

Many people may think that GaaSyy, whose real name is Yoshikazu Higashitani, should step down as a Diet member if he has no record of activities in his elected role. If he continues to remain absent it is possible that the upper house Committee on Discipline could discuss punishment including expelling him as a member of the chamber. But this is no simple matter.

Being voted in carries a great deal of significance for any candidate, not just GaaSyy. This is because it is the will of the people, which has the greatest value in a democracy. Diet members, in principle, have immunity from arrest during Diet sessions, though they can be arrested when caught in the act of a crime or when the house approves of it. This is stipulated in Articles 50 of Japan's Constitution, which states: "Except in cases provided by law, members of both Houses shall be exempt from apprehension while the Diet is in session, and any members apprehended before the opening of the session shall be freed during the term of the session upon demand of the House."

Article 51 of the supreme law further stipulates: "Members of both Houses shall not be held liable outside the House for speeches, debates or votes cast inside the House."

These constitutional stipulations are designed to protect the status of Diet members. It has been common throughout history and across the world -- not to mention in Russia -- for members of parliament to be arrested over words and actions that are unfavorable to the government. To ensure that such a thing never happens, Diet members in Japan are protected to a degree that may seem excessive at first glance.

Regarding the expulsion of Diet members, the second clause of Article 58 of the Constitution states: "Each House shall establish its rules pertaining to meetings, proceedings and internal discipline, and may punish members for disorderly conduct. However, in order to expel a member, a majority of two-thirds or more of those members present must pass a resolution thereon." A majority of two-thirds rather than a simple majority is a high hurdle, but still, there are deep-rooted views that this stipulation should be applied with caution.

The NHK Party says that GaaSyy is not returning to Japan because he will carry out his activities as a Diet member while living overseas. We cannot easily claim that his actions do not constitute political activities. There is a wide scope for determining what kind of activities are political. And if it turns out he is not doing his job satisfactorily, then the public has the option of voting him out in the next election.

Some people may say they cannot understand GaaSyy's approach, but if the principles protecting Diet members were loosened without caution, the move could return to haunt the country. While it is unthinkable for the current government to unfairly arrest lawmakers, we cannot rule out the possibility of a government that could do that surfacing in Japan in the future.

Parliamentary privileges stipulated in the Constitution act as a last line of defense to prevent the government's abuse of power.

Cats on Raw Meat Diet May Have Passed Tuberculosis to Humans, Study Finds – Inside Edition

Cats in the U.K. who happened to be on a raw meat diet may have passed tuberculosis to their human counterparts, according to an investigation conducted by veterinary medicine expert Conor OHalloran of the University of Edinburgh and his colleagues.

The investigation was launched after 47 cats presented with suspected or definite infection with Mycobacterium bovis, the bacteria responsible for bovine TB, the Daily Mail reports.

Mycobacterium bovis was found to have caused skin lesions, swollen lymph nodes, respiratory problems, lethargy, lost appetite and weight loss, in the cats.The common denominator in the study was the raw meat diet, which was reportedly traced back to a single British supplier, who has since removed products from the shelves in a recall.

The investigation also said that latent tuberculosis was found in four of the animal's owners and a veterinarian, the Daily Mail reported. They also said that one owner required treatment to address the infection.

The investigation suggested that the human cases could represent zoonotic transmission from these cats, or infection from handling the contaminated food.

Our results provide compelling evidence that the commercial raw diet of these cats was the likely route of infection in this outbreak of cases, the researchers wrote. Investigations revealed affected cats were mainly indooronly, and had been fed the same commercial raw food as at least part of their diet. This diet was recalled by the manufacturer due to failure of statutory meat inspection of the component venison.

The Daily Mail reported that there were only been six documented cases of humans catching tuberculosis from cats prior to this study, and Public Health England has reported that the risk of transmission from cats to humans is low.

TikTok Bans Ads For Diet Pills And Fasting Apps, Restricts Other Weight-Related Ads To Users 18+ – Tubefilter

TikTok has banned ads for fasting apps and weight loss supplements, and will prevent ads for other weight management products from reaching users under 18, it said today.

These types of ads do not support the positive, inclusive, and safe experience we strive for on TikTok, Tara Wadhwa, the companys safety policy manager, wrote in a blog post about the new policies.

The changes come two weeks after TikTok removed a number of diet pill ads (along with ads for fake apps and other scams) discovered by cybersecurity firm Tenable. At the time, TikTok didnt have guidelines on diet-related marketing; it removed the ads for violating established policies against fake, fraudulent, or misleading content.

Now, its laying the groundwork to increase restrictions on ads that promote a harmful or negative body image, Wadhwa wrote. This involves stronger restrictions on weight loss and implied weight loss claims and further restrictions to limit irresponsible claims made by products that promote weight loss management or control, she added.

To be clear, TikTok will still accept ads for weight loss products that arent supplements, but it will not show those ads to users under 18. It will also not accept any ads for weight loss products or services that promote a negative body image or negative relationship with food, Wadhwa said.

She encouraged users who are upset or triggered by weight-related ads to mark them as Not Interested, and said any ads that violate the new policies should be reported for encouraging self-harm.

YouTube creator takes on Mike Tyson’s punishing daily workout and diet schedule – GIVEMESPORT

In recent times, there has been a growing trend among YouTube content creators to mirror the daily diets and training regimes of celebrities and athletes.

In rare instances, these can just be a bit of fun. However, when you are talking about an athlete like Mike Tyson, the task is anything but enjoyable - as YouTube uploader Will Tennyson found out.

Having recently teased a comeback after getting back into shape, 53-year-old Tyson takes his training very seriously and keeps a relentless schedule when it comes to both eating and training.

The first hurdle that Tennyson had to deal with when attempting to walk in "Iron" Mike's shoes was getting up at 4am - Tyson's preferred time to start his day with a jog of up to five miles! Tennyson manages a distance of four miles, before returning to bed.

The physical training continues later in the day in the shape of 10 rounds of sparring, with a minimal break in between rounds. Tennyson admits that the prospect of so many rounds is a daunting one.

"I feel like a lot of people underestimate just how hard boxing is on your cardiovascular system because you don't see a lot of running... But you're exerting so much force with the punches, that after ten rounds of 2 minutes I'm gonna be wiped."

There is little time to recover, though, as Tennyson then sets about starting Tyson's daily calisthenic workout. Comprising 2,000 squats, as well as 500 reps each of push-ups, neck crunches, tricep extensions and shrugs with a 30kg weight, Tyson's training programme is not for the faint of heart. Tennyson does pass on doing Tyson's usual neck bridges, though, citing safety concerns.

After completing just a small portion of the overall workout, Tennyson is already feeling the pace, but recognises that it is a necessary sacrifice for a top athlete.

"That was 1 round, and I'm already curled up in a ball," he admits. "This is insane, but if you want to be the best in your sport, you got to get outside of your comfort zone. Only the great ones do this stuff, and he does this 5 times a week."

The exercise portion of Tennyson's day is rounded off with more sparring andcalisthenics, followed by nearly an hour on an exercise bike.

You might think that the eating side of this would be significantly easier than the training side. However, Tennyson confirms that this is not the case.

"After looking at his diet, he doesn't have a variety of foods. Every meal is a carb and a protein. And it doesn't seem like he's not eating for enjoyment, he's just eating for fuel, and that's a true athlete to me," states Tennyson.

Tyson's breakfast is oatmeal, milk and vitamins. Lunch is not much more exciting either, consisting of a chicken breast, a small portion of rice and some orange juice. The final meal of the day is a sirloin steak with pasta. Everything is very bland according to Tennyson, with even Tyson's snack being unexciting - a monstrous serving of six bananas and a protein shake!

"It seems a little bit overkill, but I definitely need the carbs right now," admits a depleted Tennyson.

Having previously mirrored the daily routines of the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Tennyson is no stranger to these sorts of challenges. It seems, though, that taking on a day in the life of Mike Tyson was Tennyson's hardest test yet!

"I'm very sore. My neck is super stiff, and I know I'm going to be feeling it for a few days after this," reveals Tennyson at the end of the day. This challenge is probably not one to try at home!

World Tuberculosis Day 2020: Healthy, balanced diet need of the hour – The Indian Express

Undernutrition is the most widely prevalent risk factor for development of tuberculosis (TB) in India, as per Sandhya Pandey, chief clinical nutritionist, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram. Not only this, it is the major driver of the TB epidemic in India contributing to around half of annual incidences. It impairs immunity and makes the patient vulnerable to multiple infections. Absence of nutrients in the diet can lead to drug-induced hepatotoxicity or drug-induced liver injury, death, relapse after the cure.

Measurements like Body Mass Index (BMI), dietary recall, weight loss history, pathology tests like haemoglobin are analysed to check the nutritional status of TB patients.

Much like the importance of regular medication, TB patients and their caregivers need to understand the importance of nutritional requirements. Ones nutritional counselor should emphasise on consumption of a healthy balanced diet to attain the desired protein-intake for energy.

A balanced diet is one that contains an adequate quantity of the nutrients that we require in a day i.e. fats, proteins, carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins and minerals. Though there is no special diet or requirements for TB patients, a diet plan is created according to a persons BMI and physical activities, mentioned Pandey.

TB patients have higher energy and protein requirements to refill the exhausted deposits from the body. As recovery occurs, it is very important that patients do not remain completely sedentary, and engage in some physical activity (such as house chores and walking) as tolerated; since it helps build muscle mass and excess fat deposition should be avoided in the regained weight.

The proportion of carbohydrates in the diet recommended is 55-75 per cent of total energy intake, and this is derived from intake of cereals, pulses, roots and tubers and vegetables.

In India, major sources of carbohydrates are cereals like wheat, and rice, and local millets such as jowar, bajra and ragi (high in calcium content, especially recommended for children and lactating women).

The requirements of protein would be 1.2-1.5 g/kg ideal body weight per day. Proteins or the building components can be of animal or plant origin. Proteins of animal origin includes milk, eggs, and meat, whereas a mixture of vegetable proteins from cereals and pulses are available for vegetarians.

These can comprise 15-30 per cent daily energy intake. Fats are present in oils, nuts, milk and milk products and meat. Groundnuts act as a good source of calories as well as protein. Soyabean oil, mustard oil, butter and ghee can also be taken in moderate amount.

Anaemia is one of the most prevalent nutrient deficiency disease in TB patients. Micronutrients such as iron and folate, vitamin A, zinc, vitamin D are important for immunity development and fighting mechanism of the busy. Leafy vegetables and fruits are vital sources of vitamins and minerals and these should be a part of the daily diet with five-six servings in each day.

Skip tobacco in all forms. Dont drink alcohol it can add to the risk of liver damage from some of the drugs used to treat your TB. Limit coffee and other caffeinated/carbonated drinks. Limit excess use of spices and salt or refined products, like sugar, white breads, and white rice.

A balanced diet alone cannot be fruitful, unless food hygiene and healthy cooking practices are ensured. Simple steps can avoid several infections like diarrhoea.

*Washing hands before cooking, eating and after using toilet.*Cleaning vegetables and fruits before consuming.*Cooking vegetables with a lid to preserve the nutritive value*Cooking at controlled temperature to prevent destruction of nutrients.

World TB Day 2020: As per best estimate, globally 10 million people developed TB out of which 27 % were from India. As per estimate, there were new 27,90,000 cases in India in 2016 alone.

World TB Day: Early detection can help you fight tuberculosis effectively

24th March is observed as "World TBDay" and the theme for the year 2020 is "It's Time to End TB". While the world battles the deadly new coronavirus, TB still remains world's deadliest infectious killer. As per best estimate, globally 10 million people developed TB out of which 27 % were from India. As per estimate, there were new 27,90,000 cases in India in 2016 alone.

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India has developed an ambitious National Strategic Plan 2017-25 for elimination of TB. Various measures taken by Government include free diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis cases, health education measures and active case findings. However, any government programme cannot succeed without active participation from people.

Here are few steps that every individual should follow:

Seek medical help and encourage others to do so when symptoms such as chronic cough lasting more than 3 weeks, blood in sputum, chest pain, fever, night sweats, loss of weight, loss of appetite and fatigue present themselves. Early detection and treatment are highly effective in controlling the spread of the disease. Family members and close contacts of TB patients also should be screened.

Full treatment for at least 6 months or more as advised by doctor should be undertaken. Even a single dose of medicine must not be missed. It is the duty of family members to see that the patient takes the medicine regularly and completes the treatment as per advice of the doctor. In case of any side effects, the doctor should promptly be consulted.

Follow common precautions such as covering the mouth while coughing or sneezing. Do not spit on roads or in public.

Adequate nutrition plays an important role in recovery as it boosts the immunity system which fights against the infection. A person suffering from TB should consume well balanced and nutritious diet consisting of adequate carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Our Indian diet is usually a balance of vitamins, minerals, carbs, protein and fats in the right quantities. In addition, follow the advice of your doctor regarding the diet.

While on treatment, the TB patient should ensure that she/he gets adequate sleep, remains active (unless she/is very sick), drinks adequate water and strictly avoids alcohol, smoking, tobacco or narcotic drugs. If patient has any associated illness such as diabetes or HIV, it should be treated adequately. Adopting healthy lifestyle even in non-infected individuals enhances immunity thus contributing to TB control

Ensure each new-born child is administered BCG vaccine at birth.

TB can lead to psychological distress for the patient as well as their family members. This can result in depression and a sense of loneliness. Hence, it is necessary to keep a lookout for symptoms of mental illness and help them cope with the disease. This will help in improving their thinking pattern, readiness for treatment and accelerate the recovery.

How I reduced my video usage and replaced it with books

Is it possible, given that someone has an impenetrable will, to stop watching videos? Maybe, but videos are addictive: an immersive experience where all you have to do is sit back. I grew up with Netflix taking Blockbuster, YouTubes rise to fame, and anime on the screens of every Asian teenager (including me).

From my childhood to my teenage years to adulthood, I consumed videos endlessly. If I wasnt playing games, I was watching videos, and I often wasnt playing games. Id click a video, and when it ended, choose the next video from the suggestions sidebar. Then I would go into an infinite loop of videos until I realize Ive watched a bunch of videos about something I didnt care about and didnt need to know. A said something about B behind their back and C watched but kept quiet, and D roasted them for not contributing, but E also wants to stay out of the drama and doesnt take any responsibility, so the comment section grills them.

Ive developed a sickness for videos. Well, not for videos themselves, but for the experience of endlessly watching videos. This type of consumption has lost its allure. I cant watch video after video after video anymore: Im too aware of how much time Im wasting. You can make the argument that Im learning something from every video, and its true, every video teaches something. But theres an opportunity cost to it: you could be learning more.

And it also doesnt change the fact that theres a state of pure passivity that you eventually reach, a state where your mind is not conscious of anything youre doing anymore. You click because you cant handle the void.

Maybe Im unfair, perhaps some people watch every video with a genuine active interest, with the curious electricity of a mind absorbing and adding information and creating a clearer mental model of the universe. But I dont think so. Im sure that others have the same brain-drain feeling after getting lost in a hedonic loop.

I tried to quit videos all at once a little over half a year ago. But I kept facing the blank space, the void. Having nothing to do terrified me so much that I couldnt do it. If I were a strong man, I would face the void, the darkness. But Im not. I cant handle being alone with my thoughts. Maybe for a little bit, and perhaps even better than most people can. I meditate for twenty minutes every day, which Im sure improves my ability to be alone.

But still, left for too long, Ill go back to watching videos. I couldnt quit all at once, so I decided to set some rules to reduce my usage. I didnt want to stop watching videos altogether anyway.

So I set some rules for myself:

The most valuable resources on YouTube for me were exercise form and routine videos, podcast clips like Joe Rogan, and videos about books that Bill Gates recommends (and others like that). I now never get addicted to watching one video after the next. Theres only a certain amount of learning I can do before it gets boring, and it gets boring fast. And so I rarely touch YouTube except to listen to music, in which case Im letting it play in the background while I do something else.

The sitcoms-only rule comes from my personal experiences with TV. I found that dramas like Game of Thrones stir my feelings, interest me in the plot, and leave my mind wanting more, probably why its so popular. Sitcoms do the opposite. They make me feel good, and they barely have a plot; I can more easily stop myself from watching another episode.

On weekdays, I have breakfast and lunch at work, so I dont watch Netflix there. And often, I have dinner outside (sadly, I dont have a family to come back home to, so I eat with friends). This means that on weekdays, I watch one episode of a sitcom, and on weekdays, I watch two or three. It took me 7 months to complete The Big Bang Theory, despite it being the only show I watched the entire time. One of my friends laughed because she could finish a season per day. Thats okay; Im trying to reduce my usage, not increase it.

What did I do with the extra time? I started taking exercise seriously. I went six days a week. Four days at the gym, two days running. After work, I spent more and more time at the gym because I was afraid of going home only to have nothing to do. Avoidant, yes, but it resulted in positive behavior, and Im grateful for that.

At this point, you might be wondering: Why dont you just become comfortable with the void? Ill be honest: Ive tried, and its hard. I dont know if anyone has ever tried to sit in a room by themselves without doing anything, away from technology, from books, from any possible stimuli, but not only does it make me feel like Im wasting time, my thoughts rampage in a chaos that I know I can stop by doing anything. I still try, though. Like I said before, I meditate for twenty minutes every day. But thats not enough for me to become comfortable sitting in a room silently, after all, monks do meditate for hours on end to achieve that state.

I started reading more, a lot more. I read 70 books in the past half a year. Okay, fine, I wont brag. There are many novellas and poetry collections on that list that inflate that number. And most are regular-length, easy-to-read novels that only take a few hours to finish. I intentionally read books I was comfortable with because I was now reading for entertainment (unlike when I was reading non-fiction to learn).

My friends call me a voracious reader. We live in a society where content has become shorter and more passive: from books to movies to videos to TikToks. Were losing the ability to read long-form content, including me. A few months ago, it wasnt easy for me to read. I spent a long time trying to muster the concentration, and even longer absorbing the stories.

The reading has made my friends think Im a disciplined man. But Im not. Reading is reading, and I do it for the same reasons everyone else watches Netflix: to escape the void. But Ive learned a lot, things I wouldnt have found. From fiction, I learned of the mutual suffering we all experience. And I never got that sick-to-the-stomach feeling of wasting my life away. Ive improved my concentration, not just for reading, but I can now concentrate on a task for hours on end without stopping, which has, in turn, made my writing better.

My rules arent unbreakable. If my friends wanted to watch something with me, Id gladly do it. But as a general rule, I follow my rules. I read instead of watch.

Im happy with my video diet. Feel free to copy it, mold it, carve it into your own life.

Dieting made me fat! This mom says she went from drinking diet shakes to making six figures as a healthy-living YouTube star – MarketWatch

Dani Spies, a suburban mom in New Jersey with two young children, says her troubles with food began long before she had any weight issues.

I often say, dieting made me fat, she says. In fifth grade I was drinking [diet] shakes with my mom and thinking I was doing something good.

As a teenager, she says, she wanted to look as slim as the girls and women she saw in magazines, on TV and online. She got sucked into the common trap of yo-yo dieting dieting, then bingeing, then dieting. It continued through her 20s.

Today, at 44, shes stable at a healthy weight. She says her relationship with food is completely different. And shes making bank as a healthy-eating blogger and YouTube GOOG, +2.13% star.

Spies says she makes a six-figure income producing one cooking video a week from her own kitchen and from her food blog. (Others say its extremely difficult to make such a sum on YouTube, even with a couple of million views a month.)

She has made about 650 videos, and her YouTube GOOGL, +2.01% channel, Clean & Delicious, just broke one million subscribers. Her views range from 12,000 to 1.3 million per video. Her husband, Beng, taught himself videography and films the videos.

She made her first videos about 10 years ago. At the time, she was working as a personal trainer and life coach, and started making videos to help her clients. We really didnt focus on YouTube as a business business, Spies said.

All that changed about three years ago, when both her children were in school, she says. She and her husband began focusing more on the YouTube channel, making one video a week.

She also writes one item a week for her blog, and says that generates as much income as the videos. Youd be amazed what some food bloggers are making, she says. I know some food bloggers making $30,000, $40,000 a month.

She says she still works a normal amount of time for a middle-class mom, about 40 hours a week, but has much more flexibility. And, of course, she doesnt have to commute.

Revenues mainly come from advertising on her YouTube channel and her blog, plus affiliate and sponsorship deals with companies for using their products on her videos. Spies says she was even paid by a jewelry company for wearing their bracelet on her channel.

She isnt alone. Google spokeswoman Kimberly Taylor says the number of YouTube channels making five or six figures in revenue has risen more than 40% over the past year, but its obviously difficult for most people to reach that milestone.

The biggest shift for me happened when I was pregnant with my daughter, Spies recalls. She was 30. She stopped putting pressure on herself about her body image: I finally had permission not to be slim, she adds.

Ironically, lifting that pressure helped her drop the weight shed been trying to lose. Her relationship with food went from deprivation and restriction to nourishment. Now, she says, she focuses on nutrients instead of calories.

Spies, who is 5 foot 4 inches tall, has dropped about 30 pounds from her peak weight. Its enough to make a significant gain in health. She went from significantly overweight, according to the guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to a healthy 135 pounds. That includes plenty of muscle, she adds. I do a lot of weight training.

Weight remains a hot-button issue. TV commentator Bill Maher caused a stir when he targeted the U.S. obesity epidemic in a recent episode of his HBO T, +1.15% show, proposing that in order to make more progress fat-shaming needs to make a comeback.

CBS CBS, +0.34% talk-show host James Corden, who described himself as overweight, replied, Theres a common and insulting misconception that fat people are stupid and lazy, and were not. He said he has struggled with fat-shaming his entire life.

Obesity now kills more people worldwide than smoking. Being overweight raises your risk of premature death from multiple causes. Obesity is also a big factor in rising health-care costs, analysts say.

Spies, who has degrees or certifications in psychology and nutrition, is planning to launch digital classes next. She says her eating plan should be called The Dont Diet.

Food is supposed to be a source of pleasure and nourishment, she says. You cant have one without the other. She stopped trying to diet, she says, and started to look at real, fresh food.

Its a lifelong process, she adds. I still struggle. I still eat emotionally at times.

She thinks most diets are too prescriptive and too focused on imposing a set of rules. They dont pay enough attention to the person. You cant leave out the most important part of the puzzle, which is yourself, she says.
