PORTLAND The NBA trade deadline came and went, and to the surprise of no one around the team, the Spurs stood pat. Its what theyve almost always done: Dont deal prospects, dont empty your supply of draft picks, continue to build from the inside and trust in the process thats led to all the success over the years.
But this year theres a sense of urgency that isnt normal in San Antonio. The Spurs let another lead slip away. This time, unlike the loss to the Clippers on Monday, the Spurs fell to a team thats neck and neck with them in the race for that final playoff spot in the West and the season has begun a slow spiral toward a place of which many San Antonio fans have no recollection.
