‘After Being Prescribed Diet Pills, I Found A Natural Way To Maintain My Weight With The 80-20 Diet’ – msnNOW

Posted: January 20, 2020 at 7:52 pm

Courtesy After taking diet pills that didn't work long-term, Tahirih Thach started the 80-20 diet, tracked macros with MyFitnessPal, and lifted weights to lose 40 pounds. My name is Tahirih Thach (@fit_withtt), and I'm a 29-year-old online nutrition coach and analytical data reviewer for a manufacturing company in St. Petersburg, Florida. After being prescribed appetite suppressants to lose weight, then regaining everything I lost, I started flexible dieting, tracking macros, and weight lifting. I've lost 40 pounds.

For as long as I can remember, my weight has fluctuated based on what was going on in my life. When college came, I dealt with sleepless nights and weekend partying and I gained the infamous Freshman 15, followed by the Freshman 30.

I struggled with figuring out my path in life. I went through a period of depression, and food was my outlet. Reflecting back on that period of my life now, I realize how poorly I treated my body. I would eat McDonald's every day, almost three times a day. It seems insane to admit that now, but with the stress of school and relying on school tuition for food, I didn't have much choice back then.

At one appointment, he talked to me about using appetite suppressants. I was so uncomfortable with my body that I would've done anything to lose weight. After starting phentermine (which is used as a weight-loss drug due to the way it suppresses appetite), I started losing weight so quickly that I was almost 20 pounds down in a month.

But as you can probably guess, using diet pills was *not* sustainable. And one day, I decided to stop the pills and try to maintain my weight loss naturally. As soon as I got off of them? My appetite came back with vengeance. I put all the weight back on, and then some. I weighed more than before I started the pills.

It wasn't until years later that I found out that this appetite suppressant was usually prescribed to those were who were morbidly obese and looking to lose weight before weight-loss surgery. I still don't understand why my doctor suggested the medication to me because I felt I wasn't in dire need of it at the time. I was disappointed in myself for ever starting the prescription medication, but also glad I could now educate women on how a quick fix will never work long-term.

I used to eat family size bags of chips most nights. I have been overweight most of my life. I was always the fat sister, daughter, friend. And I truly believed that that was my destiny. That I always going to be this way. I struggled with body image issues ever since I started gaining weight in elementary school. My self-esteem was always low. High school came around and I lost some weight around senior year. I was probably the lowest I've ever been. Then college came around. Having the lack of funds, lack of time and SO much stress, I gained so much weight back and then some. Fast forward, I decided I need to take my health back into my own hands. I went through years of appetite suppressants, yo-yo dieting, cardio, starving myself, binge eating and just creating a bad relationship with food that lasted years. I actually was weightlifting and trying to figure out nutrition on my own but when I started reaching 200 pounds, I knew I needed help. I hired a coach and it was the best thing I've done for my body. With his guidance and accountability, I was able to lose 30 pounds, transform my body and mindset surrounding food. I finally came to a place where I felt comfortable taking the reins. Through this process I fell in love with fitness and nutrition and really knew I found my calling. I went on to get my Master in Nutrition and Human Performance and got certified as a personal trainer. I wanted to be able to help women who had the same struggles as me. And I'm doing just that. I feel so fulfilled when I can just help one woman figure out how they can see their potential and how they create healthy habits for THEIR lifestyle. Like I always say, it's a process but not only should you fall in love with the process, you have to fall in love with yourself too . . .

I tried to lose weight on my own after getting off the phentermine by upping my physical activity. But with the increased activity, I started to increase my eating because I felt like I deserved the reward of it. I added in cheat meals, which backfired in the end. Although I was doing more cardio, I was still gaining more weight. I was at my heaviest, feeling defeated. I knew I needed to change something.

I used to be an all-or-nothing type of girl with eating. But the idea of flexible dieting is exactly what it sounds like and includes the 80-20 rule, or eating nutritious good-for-you foods 80 percent of the time, and the "If It Fits Your Macros" (IIFYM) rule, which means you eat calories within your macronutrient (carbs, fat, protein) percentages. This way of eating is really a lifestyle change and less of a diet, and it really changed my thought process around eating.

Stress eating, mindlessly snacking, tired all of the time, and just hating the body I was in That's the person I was about 4 years ago. I struggled with my weight most of my life but 4 years ago, i just treated it so badly. I ate for comfort, for feelings, happy and sad, and sat on my ass complaining about how I looked. I knew I needed help but was scared to ask for it. Getting out of my comfort zone was not something I wanted to do but I knew I had to do it because I was done with feeling uncomfortable. After I hired my own online coach, I started to see results. I learned that food is not off-limits but rather there is a time and place for certain foods and that yes, I can enjoy foods and still make progress I fell in love with the gym From going from hiding behind an elliptical to now lifting some heavy ass weights, I felt so empowered Having the education, the structure and the BALANCE in my life, I was able to regain my sanity back. I was able to feel good about what I saw in the mirror. No, I don't have a six-pack. No, I don't have a big rack. But I do have an ass that won't quit hahaha jk but really #genetics Not that all of this is impossible but I'm okay with this. I love how big my hips are. How strong my shoulders are and how, just mentally and physically fit I feel. Life is too short, guys. Make one small change and never look back. Your mind and body deserves it . . .

Through my journey and education (I got my masters in nutrition!), I learned that in order to lose weight, you have to be in a caloric deficit. I learned that with increased activity, I personally ended up eating in a caloric surplus rather than a deficit (hence the weight gain). The flexible dieting lifestyle helped me recognize that a calorie is a calorie, and while eating nutritious foods is important, there's no reason to freak out over eating a "bad" food.

I stuck to the 80-20 and IIFYM rules consistently, though I still had days when I overate. But I never punished myself for thatI'm human. I tell people that I can have my cake and eat it too with the 80-20 rule. Eighty percent of the time I eat whole foods, veggies, fruit, etc., and 20 percent of the time I have treats like cake or fries.

This works for me because I never deprive myself. Depriving myself in the past always backfired. I'd eat salads all week and then binge eat chips on the weekend. But on this diet, I can have chips in moderation, and that little fix during the week is all I need.

I use the MyFitnessPal app to track my food and macros and that really helps me stay on track, even while eating treats.

Left: Sister #1's wedding circa 2012 Right: Sister #2's wedding 2019 Weddings are a celebration, where you get to see old friends and family It also can be nerve-wracking, considering if you're a part of the wedding party! In 2012, I was not ready to be in front of a large crowd. I was uncomfortable with myself and my body. I was probably the biggest I've ever been. You can't predict when you're going to be in another large event like this but at my other sister's wedding, this past weekend, I felt my most true and confident self. Change doesn't happen overnight BUT they will happen with perseverance, the right guidance, and a strong WHY. My WHY was because I was tired of feeling sorry for myself. I was tired of hiding my body. I was tired of being depressed. Instead of focusing on the scale, focus on how you feel, how you're clothes feel on you, how strong you are at the gym. If you are ready to transform, I am taking on one-on-one clients for the month of August. If you understand it takes time to make long-term progress and are serious about WHY you want to change, fill the link in my bio and we'll have a quick chat to see if I can offer you the right guidance . . .

A post shared by Tahirih | (@fit_withtt) on Jul 16, 2019 at 3:48pm PDT

But I realized that I was really limiting myself. When I started my weight loss journey, my brother had recently joined the Air Force and was in basic training, which meant lots of exercise in the gym to stay fit. He got me into the gym and helped me overcome my gym-timidation.

When he got deployed, I learned how to weight train using bodybuilding.com's exercise library. From there, I watched a lot of YouTube videos to perfect my form while lifting. I loved it so much.

In 2018, I received my certification in personal training. Now, I lift weights five days a week. I have one cardio/active rest day, and one complete rest day.

The stronger I got, the more confidence I built inside and outside of the gym. I do what people call "powerbuilding," which is a combination of powerlifting and bodybuilding. It is empowering as a woman to lift really heavy weights. I perform progressive overload in my training, which means I progressively add weight as I continue to get stronger. Lifting weights is my therapy.

It's been a rollercoaster of a journey. Some days I would take a few steps backward and find myself binge eating. But my habits were built by just trying to improve each day, whether it was by adding more weight to my barbell or eating an extra piece of fruit that day. Ive learned that quick fixes backfire, and the all-or-nothing mindset is what kept me stuck in the yo-yo dieting cycle.

Following the 80-20 lifestyle has really helped me heal my relationship with food. Any guilt I have around treating myself is short-lived, and I don't have food anxiety anymore. Focusing on macros and lifting weights helped me, too; not only am I physically stronger, my mind is stronger, too.

Rebel Wilson shows off incredible weight loss — See the pic! – msnNOW

Posted: January 20, 2020 at 7:52 pm

Just two weeks after declaring 2020 her "year of health," Rebel Wilson is showing off her transforming body on Instagram.

On Friday, the "Cats" actress posted a video to her Instagram Story showing her slamming ropes during a workout.

"My Friday is SLAMMING! Thanks @jonocastanoacero," she captioned it, adding an emoji of an arm flexing. Her personal trainer, Jono Castano, shared the same video, as well as an image truly showing Rebel's weight loss.

"Friday vibes but @rebelwilson has been putting in the yards 7 days a week! Proud of you gurl," he captioned the photo.

Rebel hasn't said exactly how much weight she's lost since breaking into Hollywood, but many believed it's around 40 or 50 pounds. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight she said she lost weight quickly while filming "Cats."

"I lost eight pounds shooting my number, in four days," she told Entertainment Tonight. "One, because there's a lot of physicality but also, they heated up the set very high, to almost 100 Fahrenheit, so that we could never cool down."

In 2016, Rebel admitted that she packed on the pounds in order to stand out on screen. Now, though, she's far from that woman and she plans to stay that way.

"Okay so for me 2020 is going to be called 'The Year of Health' - so I put on the athleisure and went out for a walk, deliberately hydrating on the couch right now and trying to avoid the sugar and junk food which is going to be hard after the holidays I've just had but I'm going to do it!," she said on Jan. 2. "Who's with me in making some positive changes this year?"

No matter how much you sweat out, does it seem impossible for you to burn more than 400 calories? And if you do, you are probably dead. The number of calories you burn during exercise depends on your fitness level, your body composition and the intensity of your workout. But there are ways to up your calorie burn significantly. We are not asking you to double up the duration of your workout. Here are science-backed ways to improve your calorie burn regardless of your fitness level.

You have got to work harder to boost your heart rate and metabolism, which means that your exercise should be very demanding for your fitness levels. So whether it is lifting heavier dumbbells or holding the plank for an extended time, set higher goals four yourselves.

When you jog, your heart rate will increase at first, but decrease over time due to the low levels of intensity. High-intensity interval training will not only get your heart rate up but also keep it up. So, you eventually end up torching more calories.

The more muscles you have, the more calories will your body burn daily. So always aim to build more lean muscles. So, lift more weights and complete more sets to break down the fat and carbohydrates.

You will eventually hit a plateau if you do the same workout every day. So switch up your exercise routine to target more muscle group and bolster your metabolism.Coffee Diet for Quick Weight Loss: How Does It Work and How Safe Is It?

Rest is crucial to get adequate results. Your body needs time to repair the muscles, joints and tendons you strained during the workout. Taking time to recover will decrease the risk of injury and allow your body to level up in the next exercise.

If you have a desk job, make it a point to get up every hour or two and take a short walk. Being active even after the workout will keep your metabolism up throughout the day. Plus, sitting all day can make your body stiff and affect your posture.

You must have noticed that when you sweat out, your body craves for more water. That's because water helps regulate body temperature. Interestingly, water also helps metabolise the carbs and fats better in the body. So, be sure to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water in a day, especially when you workout.

Simple carbs can make for excellent pre-workout snacks. They are quickly absorbed and digested by the body, providing you with a burst of energy right away.

Do not forget that diet makes 70 percent of your weight loss efforts. Eat a consistent diet filled with enough protein and complex carbs. Remember, the amount of protein you get before and after your workout is also vital for your progress.

Phen24 Review – Don’t Buy Before You Read This – NY Convergence

What is Phen24?

Is it being difficult for you to lose weight even after an extraneous workout? Or are you following a strict diet but weight loss is nowhere in your sight? Then you must take care of your metabolism.

Metabolism is the most important factor that directly works on your fat. It is responsible to digest anything you eat without depositing extra fat on your body.

If metabolism is your enemy in the fat loss process, then you should use a supplement that is responsible to uplift the digestion process. Phen24 is the supplement that acts on the metabolism quickly. It involves two doses, one during the day and another during the night.

Thus, your metabolism gets a boost two times a day without any harmful effects. It can help to lose weight in the most rapid way possible. If healthy eating and proper physical activities are followed during this period, then Phen24 helps in easy weight loss.

Phen24 consists of two dosages. One is to be consumed during the day and the other one is for nighttime consumption. Clearly, both supplements have different ingredients that tend to work on metabolism competently.

The daytime dose of Phen24 included the following ingredients:

The night time dose of Phen24 supplement has the following ingredients:

What Is The Recommended Dosage Of Phen24?

Phen24 attacks your fat at various times of the day. While it works to increase metabolism during the day, on the other hand, it also eliminates any chances of an increase in weight at night.

The ideal dosage is one pill in the morning and two right after you have your dinner. During the daytime, the supplement increases the thermogenesis in the body. This action causes an impact on the metabolism to lose fat cells quickly.

The nighttime supplement is proven to do its wonder when youre in your deep sleep. Phen24 knows that your metabolism doesnt work as efficiently during the night as it does during the day.

It increases the metabolism rate even in your sleep. Not only this, but your stress hormone cortisol is also controlled through the night dose of Phen24.

It maintains the fat loss effects of your daytime hard work. The stress is reduced so that you can sleep peacefully. The night cravings are also controlled by this dosage. In short, your body fat is reduced around the clock.

Phen24 is created to control internal body functions that are responsible for weight loss. It stimulates the metabolism through two dosages.

This is the only weight loss supplement that is based on dual-action. It controls body metabolism and energy levels during the day. And promotes deep sleep during the night.

Stress is the most ignored weight gain factor. Whether youre active during the day or not. If youre stressed, it is assured that youll become fat in some days or months. Lack of sleep is another major concern in the weight gain dilemma.

The day pills of Phen24 boosts your metabolism and energy levels. So, you can actively indulge in physical activities. It is really important that you lead life peacefully. The night pill, on the other hand, provides relaxation to the mind.

Due to the dual-action, Phen24 works 24/7 to completely attack the fat cells. In this way, you will be able to lose weight quickly and naturally.

The Phen24 dually works to increase the metabolic rate during the day and instill relaxation in your mind in the night. The supplement has a number of natural ingredients. And all are responsible for the optimum function of the body that promotes weight loss. There are multiple benefits of using Phen24.

The simple answer is on the official website of Phen24. You should not order the supplement from anywhere except the website. There are multiple offers going on their website through which you can save some bucks. The bottle of the day supplement has 30 tablets. On the other hand, the bottle of the nighttime supplement has 60 pills.

The system on which Phen24 works is remarkable. I was impressed with how I felt every day after taking this supplement for two months. I lost 10 lbs. in the first few weeks without doing much effort. I felt energetic day after day and lost significant weight in 2 months period. Thanks a ton, Phen24!

By Jordan P.

I was having a hard time to lose weight even after regular workouts in the gym. Then a gym trainer in Florida recommended me to try this supplement. I was impressed with the information on their website. It sparked a curiosity in me to see the results as it has two actions to help reducing weight. I am on day 4. Hoping to see some more effects of the supplement. Fingers crossed!

By Ian R.

I was really skeptical to try this supplement for weight loss at first. But the huge list of ingredients gave me an assurance that it is safe. I ordered a pack of 2 and got one for free. The offers are pretty amazing on the website. I am losing weight like never before! Its really a 24-hour weight loss solution.

By Arianna M.

This supplement came as a blessing in my life. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid last year. No matter what I did, everything seemed nil. I desperately wanted to get in shape back again.

A doctor recommended me to try a weight loss supplement that has iodine in it. I constantly searched the web all over again until I found Phen24. It has dramatically reduced the symptoms related to thyroid. I feel energetic and healthy every morning when I wake up. Unlike before, I feel happy and healed. Thank you Phen24!

By Maxwell T.

There are multiple promising constituents in the Phen24. The combination is rare and natural. I tried it along with my regular weight loss program. The results were amazing. I started losing excessive fat immediately. Even my gym trainer was surprised to see.

I have already recommended this pill to everyone in my acquaintance. Ive never felt this amazing with my body.

You probably can never imagine that weight loss can be tackled during the night. Even while youre in sleep, the Phen24 keeps on working at its full pace. It is vegan-friendly and works even in conjunction with other medicines.

The formula is effective because of its action on the metabolism, energy levels, and sleep. On the other hand, a lack of sleep can cancel the effect of your weight loss efforts. During the night it becomes really difficult for the body to digest the carbs.

When youre deprived of sleep, your hunger hormone activates and as a result, you form ill habits of eating. Thats why Phen24 is so effective. It helps to overcome sleep deprivation issues and provides a stress-free life. So youll be able to lose weight every single day.

Therefore, the Phen24 works on the root cause of weight gain. Be it stress, excessive eating, or night time cravings. Where nothing works, the Phen24 can strictly act on the fat cells.

Could your morning coffee be a weight-loss tool? – Health24

Posted: January 20, 2020 at 7:51 pm

If losing weight sits high atop your New Year's resolution list, you might want to reach for a piping-hot cup of joe.

Why? New research suggests that just 4 cups of coffee a day can actually help shed some body fat.

The finding follows a 24-week investigation that tracked coffee's impact among 126 overweight men and women in Singapore.

Investigators initially set out to see if coffee could help lower the risk for type 2 diabetes risk by lowering the risk for developing insulin resistance, which can lead to dramatic spikes in blood sugar and, ultimately, diabetes.

In the end, the researchers did not find evidence that coffee had such a protective effect. But there was an unexpected upside: Those who drank 4 cups of caffeinated coffee per day over six months saw a nearly 4% drop in overall body fat.

"We were indeed surprised by the observed weight loss that was specifically due to fat mass loss among coffee drinkers," said study author Derrick Johnston Alperet, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Alperet said it suggests that "this loss in fat mass was not likely to be due to changes in lifestyle, namely diet and physical activity".

Rather, he and his colleagues think that coffee-fueled fat loss may be the result of a "metabolic reaction", in which caffeine causes the drinker's metabolic process to ramp up. The end result, said Alperet, is the burning of more calories and a notable drop in body fat.

Still, the Singapore experiment lasted only six months, during which time half of the study participants - who were all Chinese, Malay or Asian-Indian - were randomly instructed to drink 4 cups of caffeinated instant coffee on a daily basis. The other half drank a beverage that mimicked coffee's taste but was neither coffee nor caffeinated. So, might drinking 4 cups of caffeinated coffee a day over a longer haul pose any risk?

Alperet thinks not. Prior research, he said, indicates that this level of consumption is well within current norms. Studies, he noted, suggest that on average Americans currently consume up to 4 cups daily, while Europeans can average as much as 7 cups.

Connie Diekman, a food and nutrition consultant and former president of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, is not so sure.

"The 4 cups allocated in this study appear to be on the high side of intake, so not what I would recommend," she cautioned. "The higher caffeine content might have helped suppress appetite."

But too much caffeine "can impact the body overall, causing headaches, jitters, rapid heartbeat and stomach distress", noted Diekman, who wasn't involved with the study.

And Alperet agreed that "any decision for a non-coffee drinker to include 4 cups of coffee per day to his/her diet needs to be carefully calibrated with other caffeine-containing foods, beverages and medication currently consumed".

In the meantime, "we believe more research is needed here," Alperet said. "Additional trials with more comprehensive assessments of body composition are needed to confirm our findings."

That point was seconded by Lona Sandon, who also reviewed the study. She is program director and assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Nutrition with the School of Health Professions at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

"Coffee, caffeine more specifically, has been on the radar for years for its potential to affect appetite, body weight and body fat," Sandon said. "But the exact mechanism of how it may work to decrease body fat is highly debated."

And even if coffee can be proven to trigger fat loss, Sandon said readers should manage their expectations, given that it took half a year for drinkers to shed a just a small percentage of body fat.

"Modest calorie restriction is more effective than that, along with a good exercise programme for changing body composition," Sandon pointed out. "Excess body fat is not going to melt away quickly with a few added cups of coffee per day."

The findings were published recently in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Diet Demand Touts Benefits of Heart Healthy Diets for Longevity and Weight Loss – GlobeNewswire

Posted: January 20, 2020 at 7:51 pm

Baton Rouge, LA, Jan. 20, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- If youre looking to start 2020 with a leap towards a healthier lifestyle, a heart-healthy diet is one of the best places to start. Heart healthy diets can go a long way toward protecting and preserving your bodys most important muscle. They also tend to have an obviously, positive impact on the rest of the body and mind. A focus on heart healthy eating is one way to promote longevity, youthfulness and weight control in your own life. Currently, a few popular heart healthy options stand out the most according to telemedicine weight loss leader, Diet Demand.

TheDASHDiet. According to Dr. Burns - Diet Demands Medical Director, DASH was created as a way to lower blood pressure based on the theory of sodium causing hypertension. It stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension and works for a percentage of the population who are hypertensive. For these sodium sensitive individuals (maybe only 25% of the population), this method can provide some benefit. It also helps to restore some mineral imbalances that contribute to high blood pressure. However, Dr. Burns believes that there is more to improving heart health, Avoiding processed foods are sound, however the guidelines on specific macronutrient intake are missing. Also, weight management should be a key aspect of heart healthy dieting. Being that DASH was created for hypertension, the primary purpose of this diet is not weight management. As far as weight loss is concerned, only lower calorie versions of DASH would trigger weight loss, but that would apply to them doing any lower calorie diet. Additionally, for people who are following lower carb diets for weight loss, the sodium requirement actually goes up, along with the other electrolytes of potassium and magnesium due to the effect of the kidneys wasting electrolytes more rapidly while the body goes into ketosis. Believe it or not, the daily sodium requirement is actually higher on a lower carb diet than a high carb diet.

The Mediterranean diet is also touted for its heart-healthy benefits. Unlike the DASH diet whose primary purpose is the reduction of salt, Mediterranean style eating is more heavily focused on the incorporation of heart-healthy omega3s and fats such as olive oil, fatty fish and avocados. Since whole foods are implemented, sodium reduction is somewhat a part of this diet since processed foods are minimized. Diet Demand, a nationally recognized virtual weight loss program incorporates heart-healthy strategies in its customized diet and weight loss coaching methods. Its Jumpstart Diet, focuses is on balanced nutrition and initial calorie reductions between 800-1200 calories to help patients at risk for heart disease with quick weight loss.

Youve probably heard of or tried the Whole30 diet. The elimination diet seriously restricts your food intake for 30 days with the goal of identifying food sensitivities and poor nutritional choices. Even with so much buzz around the diet, there is still one major thing health professionals and the general public cant seem to agree on: Is this diet actually any good for you? Enter: Doctor Mikes Whole30 experiment.

Doctor Mike, the internet celebrity doctor who gained popularity for his combination of smarts and good looks, recently took on the Whole30 challenge and documented the results on YouTube. His experience and professional thoughts might make you rethink the diet.

Doctor Mike is known for not endorsing elimination diets, of which Whole30 definitely is. He says in the video that they can fuel eating disorders and possibly lead to nutritional deficiencies by cutting out food that likely isnt the cause of any problems.

Whole30 has some intense restrictive rules: no added sugar, no grains, no legumes, no dairy, no alcohol, no MSG or sulfites, and no junk food.

I can cut out bread. Thats no problem Ive done that before when I was gluten-sensitive in the past, Doctor Mike says in the video. But the fact that I had to give up brown rice, quinoa, things that I eat as part of a healthy dietWhy would you eliminate some foods like black beans that can be so healthy to the majority of people?

The doctor is clearly not impressed and thats not the end of his problems with Whole30.

"Why would you eliminate some foods like black beans that can be so healthy to the majority of people?"

Doctor Mike happened to take on the challenge during Thanksgiving and the beginning of the Christmas holiday season, which made the rules even more difficult to follow. At Thanksgiving, Doctor Mike reports he could only eat turkey and peas. Thats it.

Aside from the elimination struggles, Doctor Mike also began to struggle in the gym. He says he noticed his bench starting to go down almost immediately.

Normally when Im working out, Im benching 225 to 255 255 was becoming a huge challenge for me, Doctor Mike says in the video. When I stepped on to the basketball court, after one game, I felt like I was exhausted.

Doctor Mike says this sluggish performance was probably due to underrating his usual caloric intake, which is something that just naturally happened on the diet.

When you do an elimination diet like Whole30, its very easy to under eat calories, Doctor Mike says. This is probably why a lot of people lose weight.

Once he hit day 30, he started to reintroduce foods to note their potential negative impacts, which is the main point of the diet. But Doctor Mike says this is one of the things he dislikes most about Whole30, saying the time frame of adding back in foods is not enough to properly track their individual impact on the body.

Its not really scientific, he says. If you put in legumes on the first day, then two days later add in sugars, then two days after that grains, its not scientific. If were doing a proper elimination challenge in the medical setting, we do a 90-day elimination.

Doctor Mike also reports his digestive system, took a hit during Whole30, leading to bloating and dirreahea. After reintroducing foods, he reports his body returned back to normal.

Overall, Doctor Mike wasnt impressed with Whole30, though he did admit there was something reward to following such restrictive rules successfully. While the competitive crowd might agree, the doctor says Whole30 is probably not a good idea.

At the end of the day, nutritional advice should be individualized," he says. "Its a very restrictive diet, and it can cause some serious problems. Theres definitely some research showing that theres some crossover with eating disorders. Most of the time, [Whole30] is unnecessary.

How Do You Deal with Roadblocks on the Cancer Journey? – Curetoday.com

Posted: January 20, 2020 at 7:51 pm

Life with cancer is filled with ups and downs, but how do you deal with the roadblocks that are placed in your way? We recently asked CUREs social media audience how they coped with setbacks in their cancer journey. Here are some of their responses.

Everyone is different. So is their journey. VL

Keep things in perspective. Things that are controllable are your responses to the roadblocks, not the roadblock itself. Practicing gratitude and mindfulness are helpful, as clich as it may sound. The mind is a powerful tool. KW

Ask for help; create a team of caregivers; don't be afraid to see a therapist or mental health professional; go to the movies as often as possible; surround yourself with people that make you laugh. LHH

Our metastatic online support groups are awesome and helpful. MJB

Keeping a positive attitude as much as possible. Working through the bad days, no matter how hard it seems. MM

Knock them over. Drive around them. Face them head on. But never go in reverse. This ****storm called cancer will either make you or break you. Dont let it be the latter. BA

Set up goals for your future dreams and then keep yourself focused on that horizon as much as possible. That will help to maintain hope, which gives you strength to get through the toughest parts. RO

Just keep on living. Spend time with the people and doing the things that bring you joy. Live without regret. DV

One's cancer journey is not meant to be a solo journey, but needs a support system medical professionals, family, others with a cancer diagnosis history and making use of all the material that is available for everyone. There are many excellent materials available including the CURE publication, which I describe as that with up-to-date information on a professional level but written in the laypersons language One should not hibernate from the cancer but become involved with learning all one can. LSS

Stay positive, talk with people that know what it's about, and pray. JI

I continued to make new friends and keep my hobbies and interests. I have cancer but I don't have to make it my identity. JK

Never back down. AN

Celebrate the little victories/successes. Then when you have a roadblock you have some positives to reflect on. Use your support system. Dont be afraid to ask them for help. My mom and I were reminded once by a medical social worker its OK to cry. A little cry can help let go of some emotions so that you are able to move forward. KBK

Staying positive is what got me through it. I never had a doubt that I wouldnt be OK. As hard as it got and as much as chemo sucked, I had my husband and family by my side and my positives thoughts in my head ... and here I am. DDG

My spouse is my rock! Without her, I do not know what I would do. I share all my thoughts and feelings with her. She may not have the answers, but it feels good to talk about my fears, etc. BR

When I was diagnosed, I got angry. I made up my mind that it wouldnt defeat me. That was my attitude about cancer the entire time. It worked for me. SGD

Be kind and gentle to/with yourself. Treat yourself like you would treat someone you care about. CL

Posted: January 20, 2020 at 7:50 pm

Alexis Ohanian, known as Serena Williams' husband, father of their daughter Alexis Olympia, and oh, yes, co-founder of Reddit, has a new podcast about being a dad, called "Business Dad," that examines the bigger questions about balancing work and fatherhood, and also the big existential questions about the purpose of work, the definition of success, and how to live a better life. He also decided to shake uphis diet and recently told GQ.com that he went plant-based to be healthier.

It all started after watching an early cut of The Gamer Changers documentary (he was asked to be an executive producer and lept at the chance). Then he tried an Impossible burger and liked it so much, he invested in the company. Now Ohanian has gone full-tilt on the plant-based lifeand is finding that for his health, his ability to focus and his performance in his day-to-day tasks, plant-based is working for him.

Marriage and fatherhood can change even the most hardened bachelor, steak-lover and high-flying executive. To hear Ohanian talk abouthis daughter Alexis Olympia, on his podcast, it's clear that she has had a powerful effect on his life. Other than asking the big seeking questions about the meaning of work, the details matter. For him, that includes eating plant-based. For the sake of his focus, his ability to work effectively and see the fruits of his labor, Ohanian tells GQ that he adopted a plant-based diet. It's all in service of being a more successful human, which is a way of finding more purpose in his work, and the goals he sets for himself and his company. Here is what he has to say to GQ about his recent diet changes.

Ohanian tells GQ that it all came together for him when Serena got pregnant, and he realized he needed to make some changes as well."I don't want to be an unhealthy, lethargic dad when Olympia wants to practice soccer in the backyard,"Ohanian shared.

"I spent all of my 20s focused single-mindedly on my workI made sacrifices to myself physically and mentally in the pursuit of that. Previously, there were weeks where I'd order a ton of steaks on Instacart and put some spinach leaves on the side as my side salad. I'd eat that three, four, five times a week. Easy."

That all changed when he watched thedocumentaryThe Game Changers, which for Ohanian wasindeed a game-changer. The makers of the film asked him if he wanted to be an executive producer, and since so many of the subjects are large male athletes, "big dudes" like me, he thought, it made a lot of sense. Those big dudes only ate plants and made the argument that it helped them build their strength, stamina and endurance, which cutting down on their recovery time and injuries. Around the same time, Ohanian tried his for Impossible Burger, and "I was like, Damn! This is good! he told GQ. He invested in the company and jumped on the plant-based bandwagon.

Being Married to a GOAT Tennis Star Has Its Benefits Too?Serena taught Ohanian the benefits of working out on an empty stomach to burn more fat and get more afterburn. He tells of how we used to eat before workouts and now, he follows his wife's lead and waits to refuel after. Serena is on a "whole other level" when it comes to working out and fueling up, Ohanian told GQ's Alex Shultz.

Small Diet Changes and a Push-Pull-Legs Routine Helped This Guy Drop 50 Pounds – menshealth.com

When I went off to college, Huy Tran says, I became an eating machine. Up until then, hed been an average kid, fairly active. He played sports and biked all over down. Yet when he went to college he hoovered up whatever food was available, in huge amounts. Reflecting on it now, the 33-year-old lab scientist and photographer says, I believe that I had developed a binge eating disorder and was addicted to food.

He gained 70 pounds in about a year and a half, and he carried that weight with him. At his heaviest he was 264 pounds and felt awful, with tight hamstrings and persistent back pain. Hed sweat if he had to walk too far. He couldnt fit into his suit jacket for a friends wedding; he had trouble getting down the stairs for a night-time drink of water. I was 31 years old and my body was falling apart, he says. Enough was enough.

He started by taking pictures of himself. Then he downloaded MyFitnessPal, setting a calorie goal that would drop one pound a week. He ditched the fast food and starting prepping meals of salads, roasted veggies, and lean protein. Sugary drinks went out the window, and he began using a food scale.

As a motivator, he signed up for a 5K race he vowed to complete in the spring, then enrolled in a couch-to-5K program. The first few weeks were hell, he says. I could barely jog for 60 seconds at a time and my legs were constantly sore. He fought through that, and when he could run a 5K he got a gym membership and started lifting, beginning with full-body and then going into a PPL (Push-Pull-Legs) split. He didnt have a trainer, but his friends kept him motivated and accountable.

After a year, hed lost 35 pounds; now, two years later, hes down 46 pounds but has also gained a lot of muscle. I don't think that I have ever been this fit in my entire life, he says. He can lift nearly twice his bodyweight in most lifts, and his 5K time is under 27 minutes. He feels more confident in himself, and in control of his body. Hes much more disciplined; his mental toughness has increased. I get comments from people nearly every week saying something about how different and good I look or how they are so proud of me, he says. He thinks he might lose another 15-20 pounds. I want to keep going and be the best version of myself that I can be.

Losing weight and becoming healthy has to become a lifestyle and not a fad if you want to be successful and have it stick, he says. Fad and crash diets can feel like punishment, and are hard to stick to. Instead, he says, find exercise you enjoy and a sensible diet. Eat healthier and move more, he says. It goes a long way.
