Predicting what the first College Football Playoff Rankings will look like – Saturday Down South

Posted: November 6, 2019 at 1:45 pm

Tonight is the big reveal.

The only rankings that matter.

The College Football Playoff rankings.

Tonight, the CFP Selection Committee takes its first step toward picking the 4 teams that will play for the national title.

Rankings will be released every Tuesday night on ESPN until the Playoff field is revealed on Sunday, Dec. 8. The schedule:

A little background to ease your anxiety

The initial Playoff rankings have never included all 4 eventual Playoff teams, but they have gotten better. Each of the past 2 years, the 1st CFP poll had 3 eventual Playoff teams.

By year, heres a look at where the Playoff teams were ranked in the initial poll.

2018

Clemson (2)

Alabama (1)

Notre Dame (4)

Oklahoma (7)

2017

Alabama (2)

Georgia (1)

Clemson (4)

Oklahoma (5)

2016

Clemson (2)

Alabama (1)

Washington (5)

Ohio State (6)

2015

Alabama (4)

Clemson (1)

Michigan State (7)

Oklahoma (15)

2014

Ohio State (16)

Oregon (5)

FSU (2)

Alabama (6)

Enough history.

After 10 weeks of play, this is what I think the Playoff Selection Committees top 10 will look like tonight.

The Tigers are undefeated, have 3 wins against top 10 teams and a top 5 scoring offense led by Joe Burrow, a Heisman Trophy frontrunner. Whats not to like?

Rankings note: Twice, the No. 1 team in the AP poll has not been the No. 1 team in the first CFP poll.

Recency certainly carried the day in the final vote in 2014. This is a new committee, but Ohio States 31-point victory over then-No. 13 Wisconsin will carry a lot of weight. It quiets the notion that OSU had merely beaten up on bad teams. And it puts the Big Ten firmly in the Playoff hunt. The knock? OSU didnt even play a Power 5 team out of conference.

Rankings note: The initial No. 2 seed has won the past 3 national championships.

The Tigers squeaked past UNC but also have a signature nonconference win that OSU lacks a 14-point victory over then-No. 12 Texas A&M. The Tigers also are the reigning champs who are riding a 24-game winning streak and scored more in October than any Power 5 team in the country. I have them at No. 2 in my Overreactions poll, but I think the committee will give OSU credit for the Wisconsin win and no close calls.

Rankings note: No team ranked No. 3 in the initial poll has made the Playoff. Those teams, by year:

Why this low? There is no signature win to speak of. Yet. Texas A&M was No. 24 by the time the Tide pounded them. Thats their lone Top 25 win. For buildup purposes, they could be No. 2, just as they are in the AP poll, but between Tua Tagovailoas injury and the weak schedule thus far, dont scream if theyre lower. (I had them No. 4 Sunday in Overreactions.) Obviously, the showdown against No. 1 LSU is the Tides opportunity to silence all of this. Either way, the Tide are safely in the top 4.

The Dawgs have a surprising loss. The Dawgs also have 2 wins over top 10 teams. Nobody below them can say that. The committee will reward a challenging schedule.

The Nittany Lions are undefeated, but they also havent played a team ranked in the top 15. The schedule picks up soon.

Its amazing how teams recover from an SEC loss and improve once they get back in their conference. Oregon is the latest example. The Ducks biggest impediment to making the Playoff might actually be how far Auburns reputation has fallen since opening day.

There is no excusing the Kansas State loss, and ultimately I think that keeps the Big 12 out of the Playoff. But the committee will recognize the talent advantage the Sooners have over Baylor and reward the Sooners for their victory over then-No. 11 Texas, too. I think theyre better than Oregon, but I expect the committee to slot the Ducks higher.

The Utes are 8-1 and lead the Pac-12 South. Are they any good? Theyve only played 1 ranked team and the only way they will play anybody in the top 15 is if they face Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

The Bears are undefeated and will have to stay that way to make the Playoff. The committee will notice the 3 close calls and 0 notable victories. But there is a path. They likely will have to beat Oklahoma twice to make it.

Sorry, its not happening.

Ohio State and Oklahoma clearly were on the outside looking in in 2014 and 2015, respectively, but no team lower than 7 has made the Playoff the past 3 years.

Minnesota is undefeated and likely will be outside the top 10, but its perfect start could end as soon as Saturdays visit from Penn State. Get past that, and the Gophers still have ranked teams in Iowa and Wisconsin to navigate just to earn the right to beat the SEC East champion. Minnesota is more likely to finish 9-3 than 12-0.

For teams expected to be lower than No. 7, Baylor has a path. In theory, Utah does, too. Neither can lose, and even as a 1-loss Pac-12 champ, Utah probably would need some chaos to climb into the 4th spot.

How To Improve Life Expectancy: Have A Healthy Diet To Guard Against Diseases – International Business Times

Posted: November 6, 2019 at 1:44 pm

Experts reveal eating the right food can help people live longer. The results of various researches show that eating at least five portions of different vegetables and fruits daily creates a positive impact on your overall health. The results also disclosed that base meals rich in fibrous starchy foods like rice and potatoes, as well as a daily helping of protein-rich foods, can do you a lot of good.

Avoiding saturated fats, having sufficient amounts of dairy or its alternatives, and drinking plenty of water contributes a lot to good health and thus improve life expectancy. One particular diet, though, is most successful in boosting overall health and life expectancy.

Vegan Diets

Vegan diets, according to experts, create the biggest positive impact on many aspects of the health of a person. This diet removes animal products like meat and replaces them with fruits, beans, grains, peas, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.

There are many benefits of a vegan diet. Among these is it improves your kidney functions and also lowers your blood sugar levels. Bear in mind that having elevated levels of blood sugar can cause serious, many times threatening health conditions.

The results of the research showed that 43% of participants who observed a vegan diet were able to reduce the intake of their blood-sugar-management medications. In comparison, only 26% of the participants who observed a diet recommended by the American Diabetes Association were able to reduce the intake of similar medications.

Protecting Against Cancer

In another research, it was discovered that vegan diets might protect against certain forms of cancer. Having a regular helping of legumes, for instance, lowering the risk of suffering from colorectal cancer by as much as 18%. Studies also show that consuming at least seven portions of fresh vegetables and fruits daily reduces the risk of dying from certain types of cancer by up to 15%.

Lowering the risk of suffering from heart disease can also be achieved by getting rid of meat in your daily diet. It was also revealed by these studies that vegans are at a 75% lower risk of suffering from high blood pressure. They also enjoy up to 42% lower risk of dying from heart disease.

Mediterranean Diet

Another diet that has been observed to help improve life expectancy is the Mediterranean diet. Drawing inspiration from eating habits of Spaniards, Greeks, and Italians, this diet has shown great promise in the goal of boosting life expectancy. A Mediterranean diet includes foods like fish, fruits, vegetables, and legumes.

How fast food chains are feeding on healthy diets – Fox Business

Posted: November 6, 2019 at 1:44 pm

FOX Business' Lauren Simonetti, Stuart Varney and Ashley Webster break down research revealing the number of orders at fast-food restaurants depending on calories.

American eaters want fast food made with fresh produce and better-for-you ingredients.

Eighteen percent of Americans reported health as a top concern, second only to the economy (22 percent), according to Nielsen data. And fast food restaurants are feeding the demand with nutritious options, while traditional chains continue to adapt.

Within the restaurant industry, healthy is no longer a buzzword it's a necessary component for meeting today's consumer needs and preferences, Jeff Williams, senior vice president of retail services at Nielsen told FOX Business.Consumers are striving to live healthier lifestyles and therefore hungry for healthier food options."

The Seoul Burger, made with a beet-root patty at Leon. (Courtesy of Leon).

Popular London-based chain LEON, which bills itself as offering naturally fast food, opened its first locations in downtown Washington,D.C., in September with plans for national expansion in the coming months. It offers Mediterranean inspired items like falafel wraps, vegan burgers and salads. Its Seoul meatless burger, made witha beetroot patty with kimchi, costs $7.97. To compare, a burger at McDonalds is costs about$3.79, and Shake Shack charges $5.29 for a ShackBurger.

Despite higher menu prices, consumers seem to be willing to pay more for healthy options. A Nielsen Global Health & Wellness Survey that polled more than 30,000 people in 2015 found that 88 percent said theyd shell out more money for healthier food.

More Americans are striving to live healthier lifestyles by following niche diets. Indeed, 37 percent now follow a specific diet, such as Keto, Paleo or Whole 30, which is up 8 percentage points from 2016, according to Nielsen data. And of those diets that are low in carbs, sugar, sodium and high in protein and fiber were on the rise.

At Leon, diners can filter their dietary restrictions via the chains online ordering menu with options like I dont eat gluten or Id like a meal under 500 calories. And other chains have tailored menus to capitalize on niche diets, particularly around the New Year when people are making resolutions to eat better. Chipotle rolled out its ketogenic diet-friendly bowls a diet that relies heavily on grass-fed meat, fish and vegetables with salad bowls loaded with protein in the form of carnitas pork, peppers, onions and tomato salsa without its signature rice and beans combo since grains and legumes are not permitted in the diet.

FOOD DELIVERY FROM GHOST KITCHENS BRINGS RESTAURANT-QUALITY FOOD TO THE MASSES

Similarly, West Coast-based burger chain In-N-Out started offering a secret menu with keto options that swap out buns for a lettuce wrap. And Chic-fil-A has a keto-friendly menu that offers less than 10 grams of carb, like a grilled chicken sandwich without the bun, or a sausage egg and cheese minus the biscuit,to eaters so they can stay on track with their diets.

Chick-fil-A started offering a keto-friendly menu.

Others have committed to cleaner food options.

Panera Bread promoted its breakfast sandwiches earlier this year as made with 100 percent real eggs. It had a leg up on the competition since some chains serve frozen egg sandwichs, which often come made with additives like soybean oil, xantham gum and whey to help preserve them.

When considering the better-for-you option to order when dining out at a fast-food chain, registered dietician and nutritionist Sharon Zarabi says look at the ingredients list and keep in mind that less is more.

Try and stick with foods with minimal ingredients. Vegetable patties, veggie burgers, and most of the imposter meats have the same amount of fat and sodium as a typical hamburger, so it's important to read the nutrition facts in the fast-food chain websites, Zarabi said.

Itemslike grilled chicken sandwiches served without mayo (370 calories, 7 grams of fat at Burger King); a half-size Harvest Chicken Salad from Wendys (320 calories, 15 grams of fat); and grilled chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-A (185 calories, 3.5 grams of fat), are abetter-for-you bet when browsing the menu at traditionalfast food restaurants.

How to get rid of visceral fat: Best diet to reduce the harmful belly fat – foods to eat – Express

Posted: November 6, 2019 at 1:44 pm

Visceral fat is deemed dangerous because its a type of body fat stored within the abdominal cavity. Its found near several vital organs which is why a persons risk of developing serious health problems is increased. Eating a poor diet has been found to lead to visceral fat build up, so making changes to the food youre eating is advised.

Diet plans come highly recommended for weight loss and fat loss, but with so many diets to choose from, which one is considered best?

Low-carb diets have been found to help get rid of visceral fat, and one in particular proven effective is the ketogenic, or keto, diet.

The keto diet shares many similarities with the Atkins diet, drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat.

A reduction in carbs puts the body into a metabolic state called ketosis.

READ MORE:How to get rid of visceral fat: This cheese could reduce the harmful belly fat

A study involving 28 overweight and obese adults found those who followed a ketogenic diet lost more fat, especially visceral fat, than people following a low-fat diet.

The participants also did this while eating roughly 300 more calories per day.

Low-carb diets in general have been shown to be key to visceral fat loss.

A greater proportion of the fat people lose on low-carb diets seems to come from the abdominal cavity.

DON'T MISS

Low-carb diets have also been shown to lead to more weight loss at first.

Studies demonstrate people on low-carb diets lose more weight, faster, than those on low-fat diets.

This is believed to happen because low-carb diets act to rid excess water from the body, lowering insulin levels and leading to rapid weight loss in the first week or two.

In studies comparing low-carb and low-fat diets, people restricting their carbs sometimes lose two to three times as much weight, without being hungry.

One study in obese adults found a low-carb diet particularly effective for up to six months, compared to a conventional weight loss diet.

But after that, the difference in weight loss between diets was insignificant.

Diet isnt the only way to get rid of visceral fat - regular aerobic exercise has also been shown to be effective.

An analysis of 15 studies in 852 people compared how well different types of exercise reduced visceral fat without dieting.

The authors found moderate and high-intensity aerobic exercises were most effective at reducing visceral fat without dieting.

But combining regular aerobic exercise with a healthy diet is more effective at targeting visceral fat than doing either one alone.

Examples of aerobic exercise include brisk walking, riding a bike, hiking and pushing a lawnmower.

As part of government guidelines, adults aged 19 to 64 should aim to do at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity every week alongside strength exercises on two or more days a week.

However, some workouts could burn as much as 1000 calories in just one hour, according to research carried out by e-Bikes direct.

1. Skipping - 1000 calories

Even jumping rope for a couple of minutes can be enough to get your heart racing. For the best results do skipping as interval training e.g. jump rope for a certain number of reps then walk round for 30 to 60 seconds and then repeat.

2. Swimming - 1000 calories

Taking to the water could also burn serious calories if slimmer push themselves during this time.

Gliding through the water is a brilliant way to switch off from the world, while torching calories and building up endurance, the experts said.

DON'T MISS

It is also a great option for those who cant run or take part in some other forms of aerobic exercises as it puts no pressure on the joints. Swimming vigorously for an hour can burn nearly 1000 calories.

3. Rowing - 700 calories

This sport can also be done on the water and offers a full body workout.

The experts explained: Rowing is a great calorie burner and all over body workout as it uses nine major muscle groups, including the hamstrings, quads, glutes, core, lats, shoulders, back, triceps and biceps.

Rowing is one of the most intense exercises you can add to your workout routine, can burn around 700 calories an hour and is great for helping with back definition.

4. Trampolining - 600 calories

The low impact cardio exercise can burn serious calories and is better on the joints than other cardio moves.

This is a brilliant low-impact form of exercise - it has 80 per cent less impact on joints than jogging, they said.

Whether you are using a big trampoline in your back garden, a small rebounder or taking part in a class, jumping burns a significant number of calories, around 300 per 30 minutes. Trampolining gives a great cardio workout and will help improve overall muscle tone.

Susanna Reid weight loss: GMB presenter ditched one thing from diet to drop 1st 7lb – Express

Posted: November 6, 2019 at 1:44 pm

Susanna Reid is a journalist and TV presenter who made a conscious decision to change her diet after health concerns. Although she did not drastically change her diet, making small changes helped her shed 1st 7lb. What did she cut from her diet?

"It turned out I was at the upper end of my BMI and, I have to admit, Id been feeling a little heavy for a while."

While she was certainly not overweight, Susanna decided to make a change and cut alcohol from her diet completely.

Although some claim health benefits of having a tipple, it is thought to hinder weight loss results as it is high in calories.

Alcohol also plays a large role in weight management, experts at Healthline.com warned.

Anyone looking to drop those final stubborn pounds may want to consider skipping their evening glass of wine.

DON'T MISS

Drinking too much can also lead to an alcoholic fatty liver which affects how your body metabolises and stores carbohydrates and fats.

By making the change, Susanna explained she started to feel healthier and notice her waistline shrinking.

As well as cutting alcohol from her diet, the broadcaster made a conscious effort to cut back on snacking.

During an appearance on Lorraine, she said: It can creep up without you noticing, and what I did was cut out snacking.

I found waking up so early in the morning, and you're in a sort of energy deficit and all your body can think of is to have toast and biscuits, have calories. And you can pile it on really quickly.

Combining new healthy eating habits with more gym sessions helped her slim down her frame.

Susanna added: I'd stopped going for a while because it gave me an excuse to over-snack. But the good feeling of doing exercise is unbeatable.

Last year, the presenter explained she took the advice of professional boxer, Tyson Fury, who told her to ditch milk in coffee during an interview.

The boxer later appeared on the show again where Susanna and her co-host, Piers Morgan, praised him for the advice.
