‘This Is Us’: The Shocking Way Toby (Chris Sullivan) Lost All of That Weight in Real Life – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Posted: October 30, 2019 at 8:42 pm

Fans of This Is Us truly love Toby (Chris Sullivan) this season, and the producers know it. Hes looking good with all of that weight that he lost. He even has abs now, and hes taken his shirt off two episodes in a row. The weight loss has us wondering how the actor slimmed down in real life. Read on to find out.

Sullivan was already a slim actor when he took on the role of Toby. He knew that he would be playing a bigger character. He actually wears a suit and a prosthetic jowl to play Toby in the first three seasons of This Is Us. Lets let that sink in a little bit while we check out some fan reactions.

One fan on Twitter said, While we love Chris Sullivan, there are plenty of amazing plus-sized actors who could and should have played Toby. There are so few dynamic roles for people of size, and it should have absolutely gone to one of them.

Sullivans costar, Chrissy Metz is one of those plus-size actresses who was lucky enough to snag the role of Kate on This Is Us.

Another fan feels outraged, I cant believe I never realized Chris Sullivan was wearing a fat suit this whole time. I really feel deceived Toby wasnt really fat all along.

Fans were so upset that Sullivan did feel the need to defend himself in an interview.

Sullivan responded to the backlash over the fat suit by explaining that he is an actor and actors wear costumes.

He toldPeople Now, You know, there are different requirements for an actor for different roles.

He continued, As youll find in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Im not actually a space alien. As youll find for Milo Ventimiglia, hes not actually a father. And I think that if people actually had a problem with the way that I was representing this character, or had a problem with the integrity of the character, or the way I was treating this character, then I would really like to have a conversation.

Sullivan is not bothered by fan reactions. He feels as though he is playing the character of Toby with honesty, even if he did not go through the weight loss in real life.

Metz and Sullivan have a great bond in real life. Metz toldThe Hollywood Reporter, [Chris is] so open and hilarious and charming. What you see on the screen has only been cultivated since we met each other. He said, Im on your team, and were in this together and partners.

Metz feels that the role went to the right person. She also is happy that she will have the chance to work on her weight loss. I was kind of like, I hope I get to lose weight. Thats a win-win for me motivated in a different way this time, the actress explained on The Ellen Degeneres Show. It wasnt mandated. It wasnt like, You have to do this. But if this is the storyline, naturally, you would lose weight. So Im excited if that should happen.

Some fans may be outraged, but it doesnt change the fact that Sullivan is doing a phenomenal job with Tobys character on This Is Us. You can catch new episodes every Tuesday night on NBC.

Chelsea Clinton Isn’t Impressed With Jay-Z’s Reaction To Beyonc’s Weight Loss – HuffPost

Posted: October 30, 2019 at 8:42 pm

Chelsea Clinton thinks Jay-Z probably could have bowed down a little more to Beyoncs post-pregnancy weight loss journey.

In a new interview with The Cut, the former first daughter shares her thoughts on Homecoming, the Netflix film documenting the singers celebrated 2018 Coachella performance.

Like many women, Clinton was a little taken aback at how blas Jay-Z seemed when his wife proudly showed off her weight loss after giving birth to twins Rumi and Sir. (If youve seen the doc, you know that Beyonc subjected herself to a grueling workout routine and a restrictive, plant-based diet prior to Coachella. Of course, not every woman is super eager to lose weight after pregnancy, but with her performance fast approaching, the Run The World singer was.)

When Bey FaceTimes Jay-Z to show off her progress shes thrilled that an old bodysuit not only fits, but zips up! the hip-hop moguls response is pretty lackluster: Jay offers his wife a smile and a casual all rightttt.

Beyonc, clearly disappointed, replies, All right, just had to share.

Watching that scene, Clinton, whos given birth to three kids of her own, was not having it.

I said [to my husband], Marc, if thats ever me, you better have more enthusiasm, Clinton told The Cut. It wasnt the Im so proud of you. Thats amazing that I arguably think any woman deserves, particularly someone who has clearly worked herself body, mind, heart, soul and spirit to get to that place.

Clintons husband, Marc Mezvinsky, replied, Duly noted.

I was like, I bet every woman watching this has this sense of, she deserves more enthusiasm, she continued. Marc was like, I got it. Can we go back to watching it, please? Weve talked about it three times in the last 90 seconds.

In the doc, the 38-year-old singer talks openly about the sacrifices that went into preparing for such an elaborate, high-stakes show just six months after giving birth.

Reconnecting with her body and mind postpartum wasnt easy, she tells the cameras.

Its my first time back home on the stage after giving birth. Im creating my own homecoming and its hard, she said. There were days that I thought Id never be the same. Id never be the same physically. My strength and endurance would never be the same.

Something tells us Beyonc will appreciate Clintons support, given her history with the family. Both she and Jay-Z endorsed Hillary Clinton during her 2016 bid for the presidency, even bringing Clinton onstage at a Cleveland concert just four days before the election.

Prior to that, former president Bill Clinton stopped by Jay-Zs Made in America festival in Philadelphia, where he chatted with Beyonc and visited the festivals voter registration tent.

‘This Is Us’: Fans Are Outraged at How Kate Treats Toby’s Weight Loss, But They Agree On This 1 Thing – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Posted: October 30, 2019 at 8:42 pm

Season 4 ofThis Is Usfinds Toby (Chris Sullivan) and Kate (Chrissy Metz) going through a rough patch. They struggle with all of the typical new parent stressors, as well as their baby having a special need.

Toby and Katedeal with these new intricacies of their marriage in very different ways. Toby found that working out has helped him, but Kate is not happy abouther husbands weight-loss. Lets take a look at what fans are saying about Kates reaction. Warning: Season 4 Spoilers

Two episodes in a row, Kate has reacted poorly to Tobys new fit figure. The first time she sees her husband with his shirt off in a long time, she is mad at him. Kate is overweight, to begin with, and the couple met at a support group for people with eating disorders.

Fans took to Reddit to show their disappointment in Kates reaction. One fan wrote, If I managed to lose some weight and gain some muscle, my wife would congratulate me. Kate? Somehow takes it as an insult that Toby thinks shes fat.

Kate believes Tobys health is a reflection of her. She immediately begins to think that she is not good enough for him. He initially hides his workouts from her, which makes things worse.

Another viewer on Reddit wrote, She cant stand the fact that Toby is taking better care of himself. It begins to make us wonder about her emotional state and how she got to this point.

As fans began discussing Kates anger towards Tobys weight-loss, more profound things came about. Season 4 has shown us that teenage Kate (Hannah Zeile) had a boyfriend during her teenage years who seemed a bit controlling. The show has not yet revealed to us what happened with the relationship, but Reddit users have their theories.

One fan started the theory, I have a feeling we might understand more after we find out what happens with her boyfriend.

Then others agreed, writing, I was looking for this take. The last episode shook me, and I think were about to see what really pushed her over the edge. Ive been thinking for a while that theres more to her problems than blaming herself for Jacks death. If they take this story where I think they are, poor, poor Kate.

Users on Reddit have been hypothesizing that something very traumatic happens with Kate and her teenage boyfriend, Marc (Austin Abrams). Some believe he may have sexually assaulted her, while others think he could have been very controlling.

Fans are all in agreement that Kates emotional reaction to Tobys weight loss stems from the trauma that occurred with her and the mysterious boyfriend during her teenage years.

During the season 3 finale, we saw an older Toby without Kate or a wedding band. Fans began wondering if their relationship lasts through the years.

This past weeks episode indeed shows how much Toby is trying to make things work. He suggests a getaway so they can have some intimate time together. Kate is still reeling from Tobys extreme weight loss and fitness, but Toby reassures her that he still loves her and finds her attractive.

The couple certainly has their challenges, but fans want to believe that they will last in the long run. One fan on Instagram wrote, I absolutely love you and toby together from day one! You guys are amazing!

You can watch Toby and Kates relationship play out every week on This Is Us, Tuesday nights on NBC.

Weight loss: Mum loses half her body weight after being fat-shamed by her three-year-old son – The Sun

Posted: October 30, 2019 at 8:42 pm

KIDS can make the cruellest comments - and one mum resorted to locking herself in the bathroom in tears after her three-year-old son called her "fat".

Schauna Harshman, 35, said she hit "rock bottom" when her son Chase started mocking her weight and decided it was time to make a change after tipping the scales at 21 stone.

8

The mum, from North Dakota in the US, explained she always felt like "the fat ugly friend" at school and when she first fell pregnant in 2004, she gained over four stone.

I have memories of being made fun of on the school bus, coming home crying and not wanting to go back," she said.

"I also remember wearing Spanx under my clothes at school while all my friends were skinny and pretty. I was the ugly fat friend."

Revealing how she gorged on fried food, processed meals, takeaways and pasta, Schauna continued to gain weight following her second and third pregnancies, reaching over 21 stone by the time her youngest son Logan was born.

8

"I got pregnant at 18 and used that as an excuse to eat and drink whatever I wanted," she continued.

"I gained more than four stone during my first pregnancy. From there I just kept gaining weight with each child.

During my first pregnancy I was eating fast food like Taco Bell and Wendy's, I was obsessed with fries and I was regularly drinking Mountain Dew. Mason was born in October 2004 and as a new mum I most definitely didnt take care of myself.

I was making quick and easy processed meals. I was very uneducated about nutrition as Id grown up eating meat and potatoes, with a lot of canned foods. I never ate anything fresh or homemade, so I carried that on as a mother.

8

8

When I delivered my third son, I was twenty-one stone and one pound, yet he was the smallest baby.

"It was the hardest pregnancy I had because I was hyper aware that I was already big, and my doctor told me that I shouldnt gain too much weight with him.

"I developed high blood pressure while I was pregnant and had a few scares.

"I was also very uncomfortable and had a lot of back and hip pain.

I went from 15 and a half stone in my first pregnancy to over 21 stone at the end of my third.

"With Logan, I was induced three weeks early because of my blood pressure.

I knew people were looking at me, thinking woah, shes big, and Id try to ignore it but couldnt. I didn't leave my house much, if I did, Id wear jeans and hoodies, even in the summer.

It makes me sad that I don't have many pictures with my sons when they were little because I refused to be in them.

8

One day, my middle son was making fun of me, calling me fat and laughing about it.

"I was fed up of my weight but to hear my son, who loves me, make fun of me that way, Id had enough. That was my rock bottom.

I was angry and emotional. Of course, he had no idea the impact it had on me as he was only three.

"I remember locking myself in the bathroom and crying. Asking myself how I was going to fix the problem.

I told him that its not funny to call people fat and laugh about it. He could see I was really upset and he felt sad when he saw I was crying."

8

At a size 28, the mum says she felt conscious of her weight, but when Chase started to mock her size, enough was enough.

She began researching weight loss surgeries and she decided on a gastric band a band placed around the top of the stomach to make it smaller.

Almost immediately, I began researching weight loss surgery," she said.

"I set up a consultation with a bariatric surgeon and we went over the options.

"I had to do a visit with a personal trainer to learn how working out is important.

"I also had to prove that I could lose some weight before my surgery, which I did! I was 17 stone when I went for surgery."

Schauna lost more than five stone initially, but has also tried numerous diets to encourage her weight loss through nutrition.

Since surgery, the mum has improved her diet and now eats eggs, chicken and turkey for protein, nuts, protein shakes and vegetables with every meal.

Now, Schauna weighs 11st 2lb and is a size 12.

8

Having the lap band makes you eat slower, take smaller bites, and you pause in between to make sure your bites pass through the band, so ultimately you end up eating less," she said.

Within a month I joined the gym and I started doing the bike and the cross-trainer.

"I remember only being able to do 10 minutes when I first started, but I was proud of myself for being the big girl at the gym and I wasnt ashamed to be in the gym anymore.

Over the years Ive tried various diets, including shakes, fasting, low carb and keto.

"I lost most of my weight after surgery and through working out. For a good few years I was stuck around 12 stone and knew I had to try something else.

"So, in October 2018 I started a low-carb lifestyle mixed with protein shakes.

8

In January 2019 I started the keto lifestyle.

"I spent some time researching and following accounts and decided to give it a try.

"Thats when I made my @lowcarb.godess Instagram account and started documenting my journey.

Through keto I learned that its about maintaining a lifestyle rather than constantly shedding, so I switched to macro counting, which is what Im currently doing and I feel amazing.

My friends and family are so proud of me and Im so thankful for their support.

"Its given me a real drive to keep going and to show people that you can do anything you put your mind to.

"Im a mum-of-three so Im constantly running around after my sons, I work full time and still manage to track my food, eat homemade meals and work out every day.

"Anyone who sees that I can do it can know that they can too.

Weight loss: who doesnt want to know ways to debloat in 24 hours – TheHealthSite

Posted: October 30, 2019 at 12:47 am

Now that all the festivities are almost done, everyone is on his plan to detox and lose weight. Why not, the sugar and carb intake during the festivals always go up affecting the body weight. In fact, improper food taken this time also effects skin causing sudden breakouts and zits. Belly bloating is one of the major health problems that occurs after days of unhealthy eating. Therefore, the after-festive days demand quick detox action to bring the body back on track. While all your other plans are long-term and will take, these quick ways to detox and debloat will give some instant relief from the guilt-free binge aftermath.

A couple of days of eating wont quickly make you gain weight but if left unchecked, it might lead to some health issues. If you are suffering from bloated belly, its easier to treat. The idea is to get on to a detox plan as soon as possible so you stop the problem from growing. These hacks will not only help you debloat quickly but will also aid in fixing metabolic functions that will lead to healthy weight loss. What more do you want?

Sipping fluids throughout the day is good for your body. But when you are trying to debloat, stay away from caffeine overdose. Also, its a myth that water increases bloating. It doesnt, in fact, it helps in treating the condition. Bloating is nothing but our digestive system holding onto existing water levels. Increasing your water intake sends signals to body that it doesnt need to hold the water and can release it. This makes way for further digestion.

Detox water with ginger, cucumber and lemon can be good to sip on. Skip out on coffee; caffeine dehydrates the body which can aggravate bloating. Also, if you are drinking normal coffee with milk and sugar, it can add to your calorie intake. Thats not what you want while trying to lose weight.

Bananas are great source to debloat. They are potassium-rich and thus helps on cutting down the water retention brining immediate relief to bloated belly. The potassium present in bananas also help in balancing sodium levels in body further aiding digestive functions. Just one banana and you are done. In fact, potassium in banana also prevent absorption of alcohol in body to produce energy. Thus, body digests fats and carbs first as the source of energy. Stocking up on bananas might be a good detox plan.

You hardly feel like eating if you have bloated tummy and it might also seem like a good idea to compensate for all the extra calories you have taken. However, dont do it. It might aggravate your bloating. And the fact is you need food to get through the day, you cant starve and survive. So, rather than skipping meals, focus to eat right. A protein and fibre rich breakfast are two most energy-giving nutrients. They also delay in digestion, keeping you full and treating bloated stomach. You may want to avoid dairy that can bloat you more. With healthy breakfast, try to eat your dinner early to give your body long time to rest before the next meal.

How to lose weight like this guy who lost 20 kgs without stepping foot in a gym – GQ India – What a man’s got to do

Posted: October 30, 2019 at 12:47 am

If you are not someone who's grown up battling obesity, a sudden yet continuous spike in your weight can be attributed to stress induced cycles of overeating or a major life changeone that has completely detached you from your erstwhile active lifestyle.

22-year-old Anumey Jain tells us that in his case, the latter caused him to tip close to a 100 kgs on the weighing scale and shocked him. During my school and high school days, I used to be a very fit individual but once I started studying to become a CA, I gained a lot of weight, very rapidly."

"And, suddenly, I was 97.4 kgs and couldnt shop (or find) my new correct size from any of my favourite brands," he says.

"I also started feeling very health conscious. I didnt want to drive myself into an obese state as obesity can lead to many irreversible diseases. That, coupled with the fact that I started looking ugly in all my pictures became a very big motivator for me to lose weight, he adds. And, luckily for me, I didnt have to go searching too far and too wide for a kickass weight loss inspiration story to guide me on this journey as my own beautiful mother had recently lost 22 kilos by following a strict dieting system, he quickly quips.

I remember thinking that if she can do it, I most definitely can too! And, in a years time, I lost 20 kgs by following the below weight loss plan.

After investing a considerable amount of time researching various body types, forms and weight loss plans, Anumey says that he understood that our diet has a far greater impact on our body than anything else. I made it a point to control my diet and eliminate all unnecessary food items by following a strict Intermittent Fasting routine. After all, what a person puts in their body is more important than how they decide to eliminate it.

Intermittent Fasting is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. It doesnt specify which foods you can or cannot eat. It only focuses on when you should eat them. There are many IF plans and patterns (12:12, 16:8, 5:2, Eat-Stop-Eat, etc.) that you can follow, but the most effective one, according to studies, is the 16:8 IF diet. The 16:8 IF diet entails one to observe a 16-hour fasting period, followed by an 8-hour eating window.

QUICK READ: Is intermittent fasting really worth It?

Along with setting a new diet plan for myself, I learnt that exercise and general fitness activities can and will help me avoid having any loose or hanging skin, once my body starts shedding pounds. But, given my hectic schedule, it was tough for me to find the time to exercise a lot or join a gym. Thus, to combat these hindrances, I downloaded to the Nike Training Club app on my phone and followed the below simple exercise regime for half an hour, daily, to tone my body.

The apps simple exercise regimens included strength training, bodyweight training and intense aerobic workout sessions. It also involved yoga routines. Many a times I combined these routines with running and cycling to get a complete body workout to burn fat."

QUICK READ: How running a little bit every day for two months changed my life

"This is what my general workout schedule looked like" -

Monday: Strength Training Workouts through body weights as well as dumbbells.

Tuesday: Running and Intense Workouts

Wednesday: Yoga and Cycling for at least 10 kilometres

Thursday: Strength Training Workout again through body weights as well as dumbbells and exercise ball

Friday: Running and Intense Workouts

Saturday: Yoga and Cycling for at least 10 kilometres

Sunday: Rest day

I usually indulges in only 1 rep for a 30 minute-duration because, frankly, that was enough for me.

Most of the exercises in strength training were just an improved versions of existing strength training exercises such as lunges turned into dumbbell lunges or squats turned into deadlift squats. Basic bodyweight strength training exercises could be modified with gym equipment to get a better effect on the body. Burpees, pushups, chin-ups were some other exercises present in the strength training regimens. Not to forget crunches and core muscle workouts. Additionally, the Yoga routines helped the body to relax and stretch at once. It also helped ease off the pressure of strength training workouts whilst being a carb buster at the same time."

QUICK READ: Benefits of Yoga: 10 reasons why men should do yoga

As a part of my weight loss plan, I set a dedicated daily routine and meal plan for myself to follow."

"This is what my daily routine looked like along with meal timings -

6:00 AM: Wake up and drink a glass of warm water

6:30 AM: Workout for half an hour

10:00 AM: Heavy breakfast and lunch combined i.e. to say "brunch" where I ate white rice, beans, lentils, daal, salad, papad, and roti. (After that, I didn't eat anything until the sunset)

6:00PM: Usually, I had my last meal of the day in the evening 1 hour prior to the sunset. This meal included light-weight foods such as upma, idli, salad, roti with paneer, etc.

I didn't eat anything after my last meal until the next morning. This plan ensured a 12-hour fasting window between his first and last meal of the day.

I have been able to maintain my current weight by making it a point to exercise daily for at least half an hour and avoiding any marketplace junk foods. I have also made it a point to stay away from any food items that don't provide any benefit to my body and merely serve the purpose of taste.

The only thing that matters on a weight loss journey is the commitment you've made to yourself to lose weight and the discipline required to follow it. Here, to help you get started, these are the commitments I made to myself to help lose weight:

1

Eliminate fast & junk food

2

Remove sugary carbs from the diet

3

Eat natural & less artificial

"Id also recommend following a strength training regimen to lose weight as its proven to be very effective and also helps tone the body and build muscle."

Dear Rachel,

I'm a university student and I lost 20 pounds from January to April through eating healthily and regular exercise, which I loved. My confidence and mental health, which had been affecting me for a while, were so much better. At the beginning I went to the gym with a friend and we did workouts together, but by the end I was quite happy going by myself and going into the weights section alone. It was such a relief to finally be feeling good and so much more positive about my life.

Then something happened. I started feeling like I could treat myself more. Without noticing, I stopped going to the gym and wasn't making the right food choices. I started to stress-eat around exam time and shut off anything to do with exercise, spending time in the library eating chocolate bars and chips as a comfort blanket. I didn't really notice the weight piling back on. I tend to self-destruct like this when I feel like everything's too much.

It's now a few months later and I'm right back where I started. I feel so frustrated and angry for letting myself do this when I tried so hard. I try to eat healthily but after two days I'm back to binge-eating in the evenings for no reason. I have no motivation to exercise. I feel like I'm at a standstill and don't know how to get started again.

What can I do to improve my situation? I feel stuck in the same cycle that I've always found myself in and find it so hard to stick to a regular routine.

Yo-Yo Dieter

Dear Yo-Yo,

Your frustration is very understandable believe me, I know the feeling and I honestly believe keeping weight off may be harder than losing it in the first place.

For lots of people, you get in a "zone" when you're losing weight. A certain headspace, if you will, where you're focused on your goal. You find out what works for you, and you gradually get there. It feels good.

But then once you're feeling happy with the amount of fat you've lost, you want to move into maintenance and that's often the most difficult bit.

Firstly, it's hard to know how much you can "relax" in order to maintain your current body composition rather than gain weight. Once you move away from your weight loss mindset, it's also all too easy to slip right back into all your old eating habits, which for many of us were what got us feeling like we should slim down in the first place.

So what's the solution?

Firstly, as always, don't beat yourself up.

"While I'm not condoning eating copious quantities of chocolate and not taking part in any physical activity, have you ever thought that this constant berating of yourself is feeding into your behaviour?" sports and eating disorder specialist dietitian Renee McGregor asked.

McGregor told Insider that holding yourself to too high a standard could be setting yourself up to fail.

"It's obvious from your message that you have some real beliefs about what makes you happy and a good person. While training and eating right are healthy behaviors, they should also never become obsessive," she said.

"The issue now is that because you've got this belief system that to be healthy you have to go to the gym daily and eat in a certain way, when you don't quite meet this, you feel like you've failed and so you beat yourself up."

And if you don't switch this mindset, you'll never make any sustainable changes.

The key is to try and re-train your brain as much as your body.

McGregor pointed out that taking a black and white approach to "good" and "bad" days is unhelpful.

"What can often happen is that individuals over-restrict on 'good' days," she said. "The body then finds this difficult as it is always trying to achieve energy balance; similarly if you don't provide your body with enough fuel, you will crave more sugar as glucose is the body's preferred currency to provide energy.

"So you set yourself up to fail. You over-restrict, your blood sugars drop, you eat something you deem as 'bad' which then sets up the thinking that you have failed, resulting in you eating to excess, feeding back into the self-sabotage that you are a bad person."

But it's totally possible to move away from this downwards spiral, and that's what will make any changes you implement become part of a new healthy, sustainable lifestyle, meaning any weight lost in the process is more likely to stay off.

You have to stop thinking about weight loss as something which has an end goal in sight. There's no finish line.

I don't mean for that to sound depressing, or make it seem like you're going to be trying to lose weight for the rest of your life. Instead, you should figure out which healthy habits are enjoyable enough for you to become part of your lifestyle.

This mindset also helped me stop beating myself up if, say, I indulged more than usual on a holiday and put on a few pounds as a result, I feel OK about it because I know in the scheme of my life, it's insignificant. I come back from holiday, and I go back to my normal routine.

Registered nutritionist Lily Soutter agrees that it's important to stop thinking about being on a diet.

"'Dieting' can be a huge driver for binge-eating. In fact, the more restrictive we are with our diet the more likely we are to binge-eat," she explained to Insider.

"Focusing on weight loss can be counterproductive to binge-eating recovery, however, binge-eating recovery can be the best step to achieving a healthy body weight."

Don't cut anything out of your diet or tell yourself you can't have it, as that will just make you want it even more. If you love cookie dough ice cream, you're not going to be able to live the rest of your life without it, so allow yourself some and learn that "enough is as good as a feast" (or so my mother always says to me). This essentially means re-training yourself to be satisfied by a normal portion size rather than feeling like you need to consume vast amounts.

"If chocolate is a common binge food, instead of going cold-turkey, enjoy this food daily to reduce its desirability," Soutter recommended.

"But be mindful of portion-size and the environment in which you consume this food, only buy small packs and eat slowly and mindfully, ideally in the company of others.

"Often when we eat mindfully we tend to feel more satisfied with our food which better regulates our hunger and fullness cues."

It's never too late to start again when it comes to working towards a healthier lifestyle, and don't worry about the fact that you lost weight then regained it most of us try various approaches, diets, and ways of exercising before finding what's right for us.

It's not failing. It's how we learn.

But you need to start small.

"In order to change you need to make realistic changes, baby steps that don't feel too difficult," McGregor advised.

"If the gym feels like a big jump at the moment, why don't you start with daily walks; if this feels manageable then sign up to a class, something like yoga which may feel more nurturing than the gym.

"Similarly with eating, don't create any rules about what you should or shouldn't eat. The first aim should be to prevent blood sugar fluctuations to do this try to eat something at 3-4 hour intervals."

Soutter pointed out that eating regularly can help remove the urge to binge-eat, too.

McGregor recommends eating satiating snacks like Greek yogurt with fruit, oatcakes with houmous or peanut butter, or an apple with brazil nuts.

"This more gentle approach will help you to create sustainable, balanced behaviours and focuses on having a healthy attitude towards food and exercise," she added.

Soutter agrees that taking on too much too quickly is likely to end in disaster.

"It can be all too easy to be overly restrictive when starting up an exercise and nutrition regime," she says. "However, following a routine which is overly taxing and unrealistic can trigger an 'all or nothing' mentality.

"On the other hand, small incremental and sustainable changes can make a big impact long term."

If you lose some weight and then gain some weight, that's OK. There's no rush. And remember, health really isn't to do with the number on the scale.

If you're making healthy decisions like snacking on an apple rather than a chocolate bar, prioritizing your sleep, and getting more activity into your day, applaud yourself for that. By trying to make positive changes, you're already doing amazing.

Wishing you well,

Fibre keeps you full for longer and makes you eat less throughout the day. Less consumption of calories helps you achieve a healthy weight. Recently a study has highlighted the health benefits of a high-fiber diet. Researchers from Vanderbilt University have found that high fibre diet and yogurt help reduce lung cancer risk.

The findings, published in the journal JAMA Oncology, are based on an analysis of data from studies involving 1.4 million adults in the USA, Europe and Asia. "Our study provides strong evidence supporting the US 2015-2020 Dietary Guideline recommending a high fibre and yogurt diet," said study senior author Xiao-Ou Shu, professor at the Vanderbilt University in the USA.

For the study, participants were divided into five groups, according to the amount of fibre and yogurt they consumed. Those with the highest yogurt and fibre consumption had 33 percent lower lung cancer risk against the group which didn't consume yogurt and had the least amount of fibre.

"This inverse association was robust, consistently seen across current, past and non-smokers, as well as men, women and individuals with different backgrounds," she said. Shu said the health benefits could be rooted in their prebiotic (non-digestible food that promotes the growth of beneficial micro-organisms in intestine) and probiotic properties.
