My name is Kathleen Golding (@kathleeng1112). I am 28 years old and live in New Bern, North Carolina. After 20-plus years of struggling with obesity and an eating disorder, I decided to take control of my life, get a gastric bypass, and commit to changing my lifestyle permanently.

My whole family has struggled with weight my entire life, and I grew up overweight. I was always the biggest one in my class and remember having to get a doctor's note to start Weight Watchers when I was in the fourth grade. My weight yo-yo-ed throughout my childhood and teens but I was always active in sports, so that helped at the time. But as soon as I graduated high school and stopped being active, I noticed the weight start to pile on.

I struggled a lot with anxiety when I left for college and turned to food for comfort. By the time I was 22, I weighed 300 pounds and had full-fledged binge eating disorder. I would eat three large meals from McDonalds in one sitting. I was living with my parents and trying to hide all the food from them because I was so embarrassed. I tried therapy for two years to get my issue under control, and at the end of my treatment, my therapist suggested looking into gastric bypass surgery.

Often times its seen as cheating or taking the easy way out. It's notbut I'll get to that later. Nothing else was working for me, though. I got to the point where I was totally desperate. I felt like a failure and that I would never be successful without surgery.

Food was an addiction for me and I didnt think Id ever be able to stop eating in the way that I did. I tried every diet imaginable and would quit every time. I lacked the willpower to keep going, and that made me start to hate myself and my body. When I was 24, I could barely reach down to tie my own shoes, could only wear leggings and my dads 5XL T-shirts, and I was taking diabetes and high blood pressure medications.

I was scared but I knew I needed helpand that's when I made the decision to go through with a gastric bypass. I had my surgery on June 9, 2016, and I remember walking into the bathroom to change into my gown. I looked in the mirror and was crying hysterically. I was terrified and excited. I looked myself dead in the eye and said: You will not fail." I was doing this for me.

Thats a far-too-common misconception about people who have weight-loss surgeries. In the months following my operation, I had to completely overhaul my entire life in order to make any amount of weight loss permanent.

I ate a low-carb, high-protein diet, learned to cook, and felt all the amazing changes that come when you stop filling your body with greasy fast food and start fueling it with foods that are good for you. I measured *everything* and paid attention to serving sizes. And eventually, the changes I was making started to come naturally and living a healthy lifestyle was second nature. But this is not something that you learn overnight, and it's not something that the mere act of getting surgery magically teaches you.

Before it was nonstop junk food for me. Now, I'm super conscious of what I put into my body. Heres what I typically eat in a day now:

I started off slow with exercise, by walking, swimming, and eventually moving on to yoga. To be honest, though, I still hate going to the gym.

Before having surgery, I would try and go to the gym but would get so frustrated and discouraged with how hard it was to move my body. I felt ashamed and like everyone there was judging me. I hated that feeling of being the fat girl at the gym.

Now, I still hate going to the gym, as a part of me still feels like I dont belong there, even 189 pounds lighter. So, I've found other ways to work out. I'll usually take my dog for a long walk, go to a Pilates class, or do a workout at home with a YouTube video.

I transformed my entire way of living, both physically and mentally, in a 12-month period. And while the weight change was amazing, I saw the biggest transformation in my mental state and the way I thought about myself. I started to fall in love my body for the first time in my whole life, not because it was getting smaller, but because of how strong it was.

My motivation comes from a serious refusal to go back to the way I was. I dont ever want to be a slave to food or feel trapped inside of my own body. My husband and I are also trying to get pregnant and currently dealing with fertility issues, so while we wait for a positive, I keep telling myself that I need to make my body as healthy as possible so its ready to carry our baby.

I could have chosen to keep my surgery a secret, like so many people do, and preached about the importance of counting calories and a keto lifestyle, or that drinking a shake every day helped me get those results. But I don't ever want to mislead people or feel ashamed about my approach. It's just as valid as anyone else's.

I want to be genuine and authentic for the people that feel the constant sting of failure while watching so many people succeed, for the people that want to get healthy but need help doing it.

Former Love Island contestant Kieran Nicholls has hit back at fad diets after he was used in a weight loss ad without his permission.

The 27-year-old, who works as a personal trainer, shared a pic of the misleading ad to his 100,000 plus followers and posted a lengthy rant against both the company and fast weight loss products in general.

Kierans post started off by saying that the picture was in by no means an ad on his behalf and that the company BoomBod had never contacted him to use his image.

He wrote: NO THIS IS NOT AN AD far from it in fact. Since being on love island and classed as an influencer obviously Ive had lots of brand deals and other offers from companies asking me to promote their brand helping with sales.

BoomBod havent actually asked me for any promotion or a collab of any kind, probably because they know Im a PT and I know how fat loss works and this S**t they selling, quite frankly, it does NOT.

He continued to say that he was happy to promote brands and products that promoted a healthy lifestyle.

He explained: Im happy to help promote clothing brands, natural healthy meal prep companies , protein brands etc etc, you name it Ill do it. AS LONG , as it stays in the line of work that I do and believe in and/or wont have any harmful effect on somebody elses health, Physically and mentally.

Kieran rounded off the post by saying that users wanting to lose weight should consider consulting a physical trainer or health professional rather than buying weight loss products advertised by social media influencers.

Kieran, who was recently linked to Lauren Goodger, entered the limelight in 2018 when he appeared on series four of Love Island.

Since leaving the show, he's continued his work as a personal trainer, wellness coach and last year showed off the results of a successful hair transplant.

This past year was a major year of growth for me and my company. In 2019, I raised more investment capital and launched our collection on Rent the Runway, one of the fastest-growing fashion startups of the past decade. And after applying to about 100 accelerators, pitch competitions, and venture capital firms, I finally landed my dream fellowship with Tory Burch. I was feeling very lucky, watching my dreams come true before my eyes.

But simultaneously I was exhausted and having a hard time staying positive.Why was I feeling so tired and anxious around work?

I was on the verge of burnout. The Mayo Clinic says, Job burnout is a special type of work-related stress a state of physical or emotional exhaustion that also involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity. According to a recent Gallup study, two out of three workers feel burnout at some point. The reasons vary from person to person, but all the factors in Gallups report spoke to what I was going through.

Its well documented that female entrepreneurs are not treated equally to our male counterparts. For me personally, its compounded by the fact that Im a black female founder. Women are often overqualified and underfunded, and many of us have families and children to support at the end of a workday.

My workload had dramatically increased, but my everyday support had not. I handled what seemed like everything: design, product development, sales, team management, production, customer service, capital raising, office management, marketing, travel, writing articles, cleaning, working out, eating healthy, and managing social media. Sometimes I felt a little overwhelmed.

Small-business owners have so much on our plates as we manage all aspects of our business. You certainly feel a lack of role clarity when your job in the early days is to make sure everything gets done.

Managing myself as a first-time entrepreneur, I often wonder if the choices Im making are the right ones. Even the question of whether Im working too hard or not working hard enough can be an agonizing battle of indecision.

I constantly feel the stress of having way too much to do and not enough time to do it.

Besides tourism, Los Cabos has a culture of surfers, retirees, couples, and individuals who are looking to take it a bit slower in life. The aesthetic of the resort reflects the areas natural environment: minimal, serene, rustic and earthy.

I spent four wonderful days at Le Blanc hotel. I had a top-floor honeymoon suite with an ocean view where I could clearly see the sunrise daily. My butler would also set up my daily spot on the beach and offer any logistics I needed for each and every whim during my stay. One day, I visited the town of Todos Santos or All Saints, a colorful and beautiful town full of art galleries and local artists. I had a wonderful massage at their spa and ate all the delicious food I could.But mostly, I spent my time lying on the sand looking out at the Sea of Cortez and reading Ottessa Moshfeghs My Year of Rest and Relaxation, which was a page-turner.

I spent the second part of my month of rest and relaxation at the wellness retreat Hilton Head Health (HHH) on Hilton Head island in South Carolina. Recently voted No. 1 health and wellness resort in America by USA Today 10 Best, it has a focus on creating a purposeful vacation with weight loss and longevity programs.

When I arrived I wasnt sure what to expect. I stayed in a beautiful town house with golf course views and was picked up by HHH staff for my daily activities, which ranged from a metabolic test to learn what my daily calorie intake should be in order to achieve my weight loss goals, to a work-life balance consultation, cooking classes, and a range and flexibility test.HHH provided me a diary so I could be accountable for myself from my calories down to the glasses of water I drank each daily.

My personal favorite activities were paddleboarding at Outside Hilton Head (shout-out to our guide Jean, who was easily one of the best parts of my Hilton Head stay), the Spin Class at the Hilton Head cycle bar, and my almost daily visits to Hilton Heads Bikram yoga studio around the corner (which is my regular workout at home because it burns 700 calories in 90 minutes).

HHHs staff, coaches, and other guests were so incredibly kind that it actually inspired me to be a kinder person as well. I finished my stay at HHH with a facial and two massages.

I also met someone special, and that experience gave me the perspective of remembering the reason I am doing all this. I dont want to climb the ladder of success to arrive at the top and see the view all alone. Love, friendship, romance, growth, and quality time are all the things that make life worth living. So dont forget to take care of yourself and find others you can nurture as well. Make time for balance, rest, relaxation, and love.

New research suggests some raw meat pet foods contain alarmingly high levels of harmful bacteria.

Few things will get a dogs or cats sniffer going more quickly than the scent of raw meat. Grounded in the belief that feeding dogs and cats raw meat is more natural than giving them processed foods, pet owners appear to be increasingly seeking out raw meatbased diets. Yet, a new study suggests that could be a risky proposition, as the majority of commercially produced raw foods a research team examined contained high levels of harmful bacteriaincluding strains that could transmit diseases to pets and their owners alike.

Because dogs and cats wild ancestors ate raw meat almost exclusively, pet owners often believe their animals will benefit from such a diet, explains the studys lead author, Magdalena Nesch-Inderbinen, a microbiologist at the University of Zurichs Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene in Switzerland.

Although some pet owners prepare their own raw meals with store-bought meat, the pet food industry has jumped wholeheartedly into the market, offering dozens of meal options. These foods usually contain uncooked muscle and organ byproducts of animals slaughtered for human consumption. Several cases of bacterial diseases in pets have been linked to such raw meat diets, but few studies have examined how widespread potentially harmful pathogens are in such commercial products.

To address that lack of data, Nesch-Inderbinen and colleagues bought 51 different raw meat pet meals produced by eight different suppliers. (The authors declined to name the specific brands they tested.) The meatincluding beef, chicken, horse, or lambcame from either Switzerland or Germany. The scientists analyzed samples from each for the presence of enterobacteria, a family of bacteria that includes such harmful pathogens as Salmonella, Escherichia coli, and Shigella, as well as numerous harmless strains.

Nearly three-quarters (72.5%) of the samples had enterobacteria levels that exceeded regulations set by the European Union for pet food safety, the researchers report this week in Royal Society Open Science. Antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria were identified in 63% of the samples. Salmonella, a highly transmissible pathogen that is one of the most common sources of food poisoning in both humans and pets, was found in 4% of the samples.

Together, the results suggest raw meat pet foods are far riskier than thought, Nesch-Inderbinen says. She advises pet owners who buy these products to be extra thorough in washing their hands after handling the food and its packaging, and to be aware of the heightened risk of bacterial disease in their pets.

Scott Weese, a microbiologist at the University of Guelphs Ontario Veterinary College in Canada, says the findings about antibiotic-resistant bacteria are especially concerning. With Salmonella, the expectation is that if you get exposed, you either get sick or dont in a short period of time, he says. With resistant bacteria that can live in the GI [gastrointestinal] tract for months or more, a pet or person could potentially get a disease much later if an initial course of antibiotics fails to kill the bug.

Dana Brooks, president and CEO of the Pet Food Institute, an industry group that represents most of the largest U.S. pet food manufacturers, acknowledged the danger that raw diets may pose to pets and their owners. These bacteria may present a safety risk to your entire family, especially for vulnerable loved ones, such as children or the elderly, she wrote in a statement to Science.

The lack of published scientific evidence for the health benefits of such raw meals seals the deal for Lisa Freeman, a veterinary nutritionist at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Grafton, Massachusetts. I strongly recommend against feeding raw meat diets for the health of the pet, the owner, and the greater community.

Earlier this year, the television host revealed explained why she didn't want to talk about her diet plan.

She told the Sunday Times: It's a personal thing for me, and I think people get obsessive with it.

"Everybody knows what leads to a healthy lifestyle, but it's not up to me to give you a blow-by-blow account of what I've eaten that day. It's not helpful, and it's not what's important.

Despite keeping tight lipped about her slim figure, a TV source spoke out to shed some light on Hollys diet.

The source told The Mirror: Holly is determined to keep her new-look body so she eats chicken, carrots and hummus.

They also revealed the sweet treat Holly has been spotted tucking into when on the go.

Youll never see her without a pack of mango either, to satisfy her sweet tooth, they added.

I try to eat around 200g a protein a day. I would generally have 30 to 40 grams of protein each meal and then include a top up in my snacks, he explained.

It does seem a lot but I definitely feel I need it after some of the sessions we go through.

Although his active lifestyle means Jake will eat more protein than many people will need, he explained the importance of eating the right foods for everyone.

He said: The best advice I could give is to understand the basic fundamentals of all of the food groups and what they are actually providing you.

Its probably best to stay away from anything too processed or foods that dont really provide you anything from a nutrition perspective.

A study published in JAMA Internal Medicine Journal found that vegans have substantially lower death rates than meat-eaters.

The research was undertaken by scientists at Massachusetts General Hospital and monitored diet records of more than 130,000 people over the course of 30 years.

The study found that three per cent increase in calories from plant protein was found to reduce risk of death by 10 per cent.
