To unpack what really works, we spoke with Reema Patel, registered dietitian and nutritionist for Dietitian Fit & Co (opens in new tab), for the best ways to help you on your healthy and sustainable journey to weight loss. A diet high in fiber can help to keep you fuller for longer and increase overall satiety levels, says Patel. This is because fiber takes time to move through our digestive system, slowing down the absorption of nutrients and helping with fullness. Reema Patel is a registered dietitian and member of the Health & Care Professions Council and the British Dietetic Association in the U.K. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics from the University of Surrey, and a Master of Science in Sports and Exercise Nutrition from Loughborough University.

Patel further explains how fiber also feeds the healthy bacteria in our gut, which can have an impact on weight and blood sugar control.

Ideally, we want to be consuming around 30g of fiber a day. But for those who dont already have this level of fiber intake, be sure to introduce more fiber gradually. Great sources of fiber include plenty of fruits and vegetables, grains and pulses, as well as nuts and seeds.

Patel recommends that before even eating, you should take a moment to notice the food how does it smell, what are the sensations you are getting? Then, take your time to enjoy the experience of eating, slowly with no distractions, to fully appreciate the food.

This way, youll notice your body and emotions change and feel different whilst eating. This can make enjoying foods that you crave more manageable, with slightly smaller portions but feeling fully satisfied after having them mindfully, adds Patel.

Sleep has so much to do with our overall health from our skin down to our weight. If you find that you have short night sleeps or struggle with energy in the day, it could be worth trying to improve your sleep hygiene.

Patel recommends trying to reduce screen times an hour before sleep, instead doing other things that relax you such as reading or another hobby like scrapbooking or knitting. Try to go to sleep and wake up at regular times each day, even on weekends, to get into a routine, she says.

Studies show (opens in new tab) that if you do not get enough sleep, you may be more likely to snack the next day or reach for higher energy dense foods to provide you with a boost to get you through the day. You may also be less inclined to cook healthy meals or exercise, which all impacts on your health overall.

Relationships with comfort eating can be difficult. But if we find that after a long or stressful day, we reach for food as a comfort, this can have a negative impact overtime on health and weight.

Its not that comfort eating is bad, explains Patel, but, its important to find other ways to really help us to feel better. When we think about it, eating for comfort can help in the moment, but often it is very short lasting and we are left wanting more.

Food can be a temporary fix but looking deeper into what other ways you may find helpful to manage stress or help with your mood will be more important for your wellbeing in the long term.

Instead of cutting carbs from the diet, focus on the quality and type of carbohydrates consumed.

Carbohydrates are important to help provide us with our main source of energy, in the form of glucose. However, there is a difference in the types of carbohydrates, and how they can influence weight, explains Patel.

Try to opt for unprocessed whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans and pulses, and reduce your intake of refined carbohydrates, such as white bread or pastas, and pastries. Unprocessed carbohydrates are often higher in fiber, with a lower glycaemic index. This can help with improving blood sugar control and helping regulate appetite levels, which can play a role in reducing risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

There are some many benefits of protein. When we consume protein, this requires more energy by the body to digest and absorb, which is beneficial for helping with weight loss, says Patel. Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 2-0 to start the 2022 NFL season, but the former New England Patriots quarterback's mood has overshadowed his success on the field.

Brady made it clear in a recent press conference that at age 45, there's "a lot of (expletive) going on" in his personal life. Those issues caused him to miss time with the team during training camp, and he'll also get Wednesdays off each week of the season.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion was visibly frustrated during the Bucs' Week 2 win over the New Orleans Saints. Tampa's offense failed to score in the first half and had only three points through three quarters before pulling away in the fourth. Brady was seen screaming at his teammates on the sideline and spiking his tablet device.

On a new episode of the Patriots Talk Podcast, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times joins Tom E. Curran for a wellness check on Brady.

"I think there obviously is something in his personal life that is affecting him," Stroud said. "We've all seen the weight loss. I don't think that's part of the TB12 plan. Maybe it is, I don't know. For what we saw out there on the field Sunday, he was very short-tempered. He's tablet-throwing Tommy now. Jumping on his own players for dropping passes and things like that. He even said on his podcast that he was a little too wound up. ...

"But there's no question that the whole episode of retiring, unretiring, new head coach -- there's a lot of changes going on. It's been a different year altogether."

Despite whatever off-field issues may be haunting him, Brady's unmatched work ethic is still on full display when he's with the team. The question is, what's forcing him to divide his attention?

"He's definitely got a lot of things going on. But he still manages to practice five days a week or six days a week and shows up on Sunday ready to compete. That fire is still there, but they're doing it a different way," Stroud added.

"None of us can really speculate on what's going on there, but it's not good. It's definitely causing him some stress. It caused him to miss time away from the team. ... It just feels like it's more important for him to be away than present with this football team."

When you're on a weight loss mission, it's common to be totally into working out as much as possible to reach your end goal even faster. But if you're working out seven days a week for weight loss, is it too much? We spoke with an expert and have the scoop, so keep reading to learn more.

Eat This, Not That! chatted with Victoria Brady, a personal trainer on Fyt, the biggest personal training service in the nation that makes expert-guided in-person or virtual fitness convenient and accessible for everyone. Brady stresses just how important working out is to add to your regular routine to improve your overall wellness. Not only does it help with maintaining a healthy weight, but it also lowers any chance of disease and is instrumental in bettering your mental health. We asked Brady to discuss the good and the evil of working out every day of the week, and she starts with the pros, telling us, "The biggest benefit of working out seven days a week is having better endurance and physique/physical appearance. Exercising daily will make the routines easier, allowing you to work out longer or go further (in the distance). Additionally, you are more likely to weigh less, giving you the appearance of a leaner, toner body. Some other pros include daily mood boost post-workout, more likely to reach your fitness goals (and stick to them), and increased focus."

As far as the cons, Brady starts with the biggest, which is the possibility of overtraining. She points out, "Overtraining is defined as working out too much and/or too hard without allowing your body enough time to rest. By overtraining, you risk decreasing your performance, hitting a plateau, so you stop seeing results, increasing the risk of injury/joint issues in the future, and it can even negatively impact your mood due to lack of rest (i.e., increase in depression/anxiety)."

Brady says that it's totally possible to effectively perform your exercise regimen each day of the week. However, it's important to switch things up each day to prevent overtraining. She warns, "Avoid working the same muscle group back-to-back as well as keeping your workouts to less than 60 minutes a day and rotating the intensity (i.e., high intensity, such as HIIT, one day and low-intensity workout, like walking, the next day). This also means not doing only cardio daily but also incorporating strength training."

There are certain exercises to do on a routine basis that promote a longer life. That includes both strength training for stronger bones and muscles and cardio for a healthy heart. "Some of the best cardio exercises to do regularly include walking/jogging, swimming, or cycling. On the other hand, some of the best strength training exercises include squats, hip-hinging movements such as lunges, push/pull movements (i.e., push-ups, pull-ups), and planks," Brady shares.

But it seems that the challenge becomes even more magnified once you achieve your desired target. Something that Redditor euisalk knows from personal experience. As she detailed in her recent AITA confession, the world started treating her differently as soon as she slimmed down.

Its very disappointing and very frustrating, you know, for me as well, being in the mental health field and hearing about these experiences. Its very sad. And this is really why we want to educate the public as much as we can in terms of how harmful weight bias can be.

Thankfully, the body positivity movement has been growing stronger. It has made tremendous strides in increasing acceptance of different body types that would otherwise fall outside unrealistic beauty standards. It has inspired people to make their bodies seen and their voices heard. But while we celebrate these accomplishments, its important to remember that fatphobia is still alive and well. Standing up to it takes strength and courage, something the author of the story demonstrated so well.

While theres a long way to go in dismantling fatphobia, the womans story brings attention to the issue, and we hope that she will find a way to open her family members minds and help them unlearn harmful beauty expectations.
